How to Create an Effective Thesis Statement in 5 Easy Steps
Creating a thesis statement can be a daunting task. It’s one of the most important sentences in your paper, and it needs to be done right. But don’t worry — with these five easy steps, you’ll be able to create an effective thesis statement in no time.
Step 1: Brainstorm Ideas
The first step is to brainstorm ideas for your paper. Think about what you want to say and write down any ideas that come to mind. This will help you narrow down your focus and make it easier to create your thesis statement.
Step 2: Research Your Topic
Once you have some ideas, it’s time to do some research on your topic. Look for sources that support your ideas and provide evidence for the points you want to make. This will help you refine your argument and make it more convincing.
Step 3: Formulate Your Argument
Now that you have done some research, it’s time to formulate your argument. Take the points you want to make and put them into one or two sentences that clearly state what your paper is about. This will be the basis of your thesis statement.
Step 4: Refine Your Thesis Statement
Once you have formulated your argument, it’s time to refine your thesis statement. Make sure that it is clear, concise, and specific. It should also be arguable so that readers can disagree with it if they choose.
Step 5: Test Your Thesis Statement
The last step is to test your thesis statement. Does it accurately reflect the points you want to make? Is it clear and concise? Does it make an arguable point? If not, go back and refine it until it meets all of these criteria.
Creating an effective thesis statement doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With these five easy steps, you can create a strong thesis statement in no time at all.

Several industries have been affected by digitalization over the last decade. Currently the world of printed media is experiencing numerous turbulent changes. Printed newspapers are increasing their presence online and starting to compete in digital channels. This makes for an interesting area of research. With this study we hope to create a greater understanding for how the newspaper industry is affected by digital technology. The theoretical framework of this study is based upon Christensen’s (2005) concept of disruptive technology as well as Yoo & Lyytinen et al. (2010) theories on digitalization and digital innovation. We conducted a case study at the local newspaper Alpha News. Five semi- structured interviews were performed with different employees with various distinct roles; all of them important to obtain an insight into the changes occurring at Alpha News. In our study we are able to identify several aspects of changes due to digitalization within Alpha News. The printed newspaper, for instance, faces a steady decline in subscription rates due to the readers increased reliance on digital alternatives for local news. Other shown effects of the digitalized business where also revealed. The pace of change, the use of technological aids, as well as the reader-relationship, all act as examples of these shown effects.

The diffusion and social impact of online news: Studying the past and present to understand the future of the Internet as a news medium

As the recent unprecedented penetration of online news into societies has shown no sign of stopping, there is still insufficient knowledge about the socio-technical dynamics of its diffusion to help forecast its future. What drives/impedes the take-up of online technologies in the newsroom? In what way do the much-touted features of online news contribute to the way people adopt, use and integrate it into daily life? How is this process affected by users' existing socio-psychological conditions (e.g. social status, news orientation, attitudes to new technologies, Internet experience)? Will online news gradually displace and then replace older news forms? Does the rise of blogs, forums and other "Web 2.0" platforms spell a slow death of journalism? What does all this mean for the future of news? This thesis explores the 160-year evolution of online news to answer these and related questions. Employing historical and survey data with an interdisciplinary and international perspective, it is directed to both newspeople and scholars in journalism studies, Internet studies, audience research, media sociology, media history, media economics, media psychology, innovation diffusion and so on. This thesis was developed into a book, The Penetration of Online News: Past, Present and Future, available at https://www.academia.edu/1883962/The_Penetration_of_Online_News_Past_Present_and_Future.

Using data from a national survey of 4270 Australians conducted in late 2003, this article merges the structural approach to media audience formation with innovation diffusion theory to explore major socio-structural factors influencing the adoption of online news and information. It finds that more internet accessibility, traditional news and information usage, and privileged socio-economic profiles are strong predictors of online news and information adoption.

This study focused on examining the use, gratifications and dependence on online news channels by undergraduate students of the University of Jos. This study investigated their usage pattern of online news channels; news categories or media repertoire of interest to them and their reasons or motivations for such use and dependence. Media dependency theory and Uses and Gratifications theory were the theoretical foundation of this research. The study used survey as the research design; questionnaire as instrument for data collection and stratified purposive sampling method on a sample of three hundred and fifty (350) undergraduate students who were taken purposively and proportionately from each faculty in the Institution. Data retrieved were analysed using frequency count, cross tabulation and simple percentage. The study found out that undergraduate students of the University of Jos used online news channels for various reasons such as inexpensiveness and convenience of use of such channels; ability to comment, share, post and get feedbacks but most importantly to stay updated and informed on various issues. The study therefore recommended that media content producers, University of Jos management, government and service producers all have roles to play in effective and efficient use of online news channels.

The overriding research question of the study is to see if ownership of mobile phone would affect use of both traditional and new media outlets for news. Analyses of a national survey (n = 496) in early 2010 show that ownership of mobile phone was a significant factor in explaining use of mobile phone, online media, and newspaper’s website for news; it had no impact on readership of print daily or weekly newspaper and watching news on television, after age, gender, education, and income were statistically controlled. In addition, age was significantly and positively associated with use of traditional news media, and negatively associated with use of online media and mobile phone for news. On average, smartphone owners were significantly younger than those who had either simple cellphone or no cellphone at all.

The enduring policy conflicts of the Information Age increasingly demand a history of technology that acknowledges the legacy of accumulated user experience across successive paradigms and generations of communication media. Interrogation of the histories of Internet, teletext, videotex and bulletin board system (BBS) technologies, reveal the 1980s as a watershed decade for the radically decentralized socialization of digital communication. While each new technical paradigm requires cultural practices to socialize the products of engineering, the prevalence of elite- and infrastructure-focused histories reflect a systematic preference for describing centralized processes of engineering. This work integrates disparate accounts of technological innovation, diffusion, adoption and translation, pointing the way toward a more flexible, user-focused, people’s history of the Internet.
International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics, 8 (2,3), pp. 251-268.
As the Internet becomes increasingly cheap to access and easy to use, some scholars and industrial figures have argued that the digital divide – the information and democratic gap between different socio-economic segments of societies – will by itself shrink over time and eventually disappear. This paper will employ a forecasting model of online news adoption and use, to argue that, even if the Internet becomes accessible and easy for virtually everybody in the future, such a ‘digital delay’ thesis will not materialise. The digital divide is a social rather than technologically driven phenomenon, caused by variation in many factors beyond access and skills. In addition, the ‘logic of upgrade culture’ of the Internet means that users have to continuously acquire new resources and skills to keep up with its evolution and, therefore, there are always people who are well in advance and those far behind. These are well reflected in the area of online news, where the intertwined effect of Internet experience, news orientation/behaviour, innovativeness and perception of online news attributes render the online news gap between SES (socio-economic status) groups likely to widen, rather than narrow, in the years and decades ahead.
