A Guide to Climate Change for Kids
Have you heard your parents or people in videos talking about climate change? Ever wondered what it is and why we care about it so much? NASA scientists have been studying Earth’s climate for more than 40 years. We used what we’ve learned in that time to answer some of your biggest questions below!

What is the difference between weather and climate?
The main difference is time. Weather is only temporary. For example, a blizzard can turn into a flood after just a few warm spring days. Climate, on the other hand, is more than just a few warm or cool days. Climate describes the typical weather conditions in an entire region for a very long time – 30 years or more.

What is climate change?
Climate change describes a change in the typical weather for a region — such as high and low temperatures and amount of rainfall — over a long period of time. Scientists have observed that, overall, Earth is warming. In fact, many of the warmest years on record have happened in the past 20 years. This rise in global temperature is sometimes called global warming.

How do we know Earth’s climate is getting warmer?
Scientists have been observing Earth for a long time. They use NASA satellites and other instruments to collect many types of information about Earth's land, atmosphere, ocean, and ice. This information tells us that Earth's climate is getting warmer.
Click here to learn more about how we know the climate is changing!

Why is Earth warming?
Some of the gases in Earth’s atmosphere trap heat from the Sun—like the glass roof and walls of a greenhouse. These greenhouse gases keep Earth warm enough to live on. But human activities, such as the destruction of forests and burning fossil fuels, create extra greenhouse gases. This traps even more of the Sun’s heat, leading to a warmer Earth.
Click here to learn more about the greenhouse effect!

What does carbon have to do with it?
Carbon is in all living things on Earth. As plants and animals die, they get buried in the ground. After enough years, these squished underground remains can turn into fossil fuels, such as coal and oil. When we burn those fuels, the carbon that was in the ground goes into the air as a gas called carbon dioxide, or CO2. Plants and trees can absorb some of this extra carbon dioxide. But a lot of it stays in the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas that warms up the planet.
Click here to learn more about carbon!

Has the climate ever changed before?
Yes, but this time is different. Over millions of years, Earth's climate has warmed up and cooled down many times. In the past, Earth often warmed up when the Sun was very active. But nowadays, we can carefully measure the Sun’s activity. We know Earth is warming now, even when the Sun is less active. Today, the planet is warming much faster than it has over human history.

It doesn’t feel hotter where I live. Why does climate change matter?
The average air temperatures near Earth's surface have gone up about 2 degrees Fahrenheit in the last century. A couple of degrees over a hundred years may not seem like much. However, this change can have big impacts on the health of Earth's plants and animals.

What does climate change do to the ocean?
As Earth warms, NASA has observed that sea levels are rising. This is partly due to melting ice. Glaciers and ice sheets are large masses of ice that sit on the land. As our planet warms, this ice melts and flows into the oceans. More water in the oceans makes sea level higher. Also, water expands as it gets warmer. So, warm water takes up more room in our oceans – making sea levels higher.
The properties of ocean water are also changing. One change is called ocean acidification and it can be harmful for plants and animals. Scientists have observed that the ocean is becoming more acidic as its water absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Click here to learn more about how we measure sea level!

How are scientists studying climate change?
Scientists study Earth’s climate using lots of tools on the ground, in the air, and in space. For example, NASA satellites are orbiting Earth all the time. They measure carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. They monitor melting ice and measure rising seas and many other things, too. This information helps scientists learn more about Earth’s changing climate.

What can I do?
Climate change seems big, but it’s something that we can learn about and work on together! NASA’s scientists are studying and monitoring climate change—and there are a few ways you can help them learn more.

What is climate change?
We investigate…, so, what is climate change.
Climate change (or global warming ), is the process of our planet heating up.
Scientists estimate that since the Industrial Revolution , human activity has caused the Earth to warm by approximately 1°C . While that might not sound like much, it means big things for people and wildlife around the globe.
Unfortunately, rising temperatures don’t just mean that we’ll get nicer weather – if only ! The changing climate will actually make our weather more extreme and unpredictable .
As temperatures rise, some areas will get wetter and lots of animals (and humans!) could find they’re not able to adapt to their changing climate.

What causes climate change?
1. burning fossil fuels, 3. deforestation, how will climate change affect the planet.
The Earth has had many tropical climates and ice ages over the billions of years that it’s been in existence, so why is now so different? Well, this is because for the last 150 years human activity has meant we’re releasing a huge amount of harmful gases into the Earth’s atmosphere, and records show that the global temperatures are rising more rapidly since this time.
A warmer climate could affect our planet in a number of ways:
– More rainfall
– Changing seasons
– Shrinking sea ice
– Rising sea levels
How will climate change affect wildlife?

It’s not just polar animals who are in trouble. Apes like orangutans , which live in the rainforests of Indonesia , are under threat as their habitat is cut down, and more droughts cause more bushfires.
How will people be affected by climate change?
Climate change won’t just affect animals, it’s already having an impact on people, too. Most affected are some of the people who grow the food we eat every day. Farming communities, especially in developing countries , are facing higher temperatures, increased rain, floods and droughts.
We Brits love a good cuppa , (around 165 million cups of the stuff every day!), but we probably take for granted just how much work goes into growing our tea. Environmental conditions can affect the flavour and quality plus it needs a very specific rainfall to grow. In Kenya, climate change is making rainfall patterns less and less predictable. Often there will be droughts followed by huge amounts rain, which makes it very difficult to grow tea.
How are people coping with climate change?
Buying Fairtrade products can help make sure a farmer is paid a fair wage. This means they can cover their costs, earn enough money to have a decent standard of living, and invest in their farms to keep their crop healthy, without needing to resort to cheap methods of farming which can further damage the environment.
This support also helps farmers to replace eucalyptus trees – which take up a lot of water – with indigenous trees that are better for the farmers’ soil. They can learn to make fuel-efficient stoves which will not only make them a little extra money, but also reduce the carbon footprint of the community – cool !
How can I help prevent climate change?
Small changes in your own home can make a difference, too. Try switching to energy-saving lightbulbs, walking instead of using the car, turning off electrical items when you’re not using them, recycling and reducing your food waste.
All these little things can make a difference. You can check out more eco-friendly ideas, in our kids’ guide to saving the planet! Plus, check out our cool article about Greta Thunberg , too, to discover how young people are making their voices heard.

Resources for Teaching About Climate Change With The New York Times
Dozens of resources to help students understand why our planet is warming and what we can do to stop it.

By The Learning Network
How much do your students know about climate change — what causes it, what its consequences are and what we can do to stop it?
A 2022 report from the United Nations found that countries around the world are failing to live up to their commitments to fight climate change, pointing Earth toward a future marked by more intense flooding, wildfires, drought, heat waves and species extinction.
Young people in particular are feeling the effects — both physical and emotional — of a warming planet. In response to a writing prompt about extreme weather that has been intensified by climate change, teenagers told us about experiencing deadly heat waves in Washington, devastating hurricanes in North Carolina and even smoke from the California wildfires in Vermont. They’re also feeling the anxiety of facing a future that could be even worse: “How long do I have before the Earth becomes uninhabitable? I ask myself this every day,” one student wrote .
Over the years, we’ve created dozens of resources to help young people learn about climate change with New York Times articles, interactive quizzes, graphs, films and more. To mark this moment, we’re collecting 60 of them, along with selected recent Times reporting and Opinion pieces on the topic, all in one place.
To get you started, we’ve highlighted several of those resources and offered ideas for how you can use them in your classroom. Whether it’s a short video about a teenage climate activist, a math problem about electric vehicles, or a writing prompt about their diet’s carbon footprint, we hope these activities can get your students thinking and talking about climate change and inspire them to make a difference.
How are you teaching about the climate crisis, its consequences and its solutions? Let us know in the comments.
Ideas for Teaching About Climate Change With The New York Times
1. Understand climate change (and what we can do about it) with a digital children’s book.
The Times has published thousands of stories on climate change over the years, but many of them can be dense and difficult for young people to understand. Use this guide for kids to help your students learn the basics of the climate crisis and understand what choices can lead us to a bad future or a better future. We have a related lesson plan to help.
2. Assess climate choices with an interactive quiz.
What do your students know — or think they know — about the best ways to reduce their carbon footprints? In two Student Opinion prompts, we invite teenagers to test their knowledge with a mini-quiz about good climate choices or one about how much their diets contribute to climate change , and then share their results and reflections on what they learned.
3. Analyze climate change data with New York Times graphs.
Use our notice and wonder protocol to help students analyze graphs from The New York Times related to climate change. In 2019, we rounded up 24 graphs on topics such as melting ice, rising carbon emissions and global warming’s effect on humans. You can find our most recent graphs in our roundup below or by searching “climate change” in our What’s Going On in This Graph? archives.
Another option? Have students collect and analyze their own climate change data. See how a group of science and math teachers guided their classes to do just that in this Reader Idea .
4. Show a short film about the climate crisis’s impact on a vulnerable community.
Climate change will have a disproportionate effect on the world’s most vulnerable. What can we learn from them during the climate crisis? Invite students to watch the short film “ Rebuild or Leave ‘Paradise’: Climate Change Dilemma Facing a Nicaraguan Coastal Town ” about how intensifying storms are affecting the traditional way of life in the Miskito village of Haulover, and then participate in our Film Club .
If you want to explore this topic further, see our 2017 resource “ A Lesson Plan About Climate Change and the People Already Harmed by It .”
5. Use this lesson plan to explore ways to prevent the worst effects of climate change.
Every year, world leaders and activists meet to set new targets for cutting emissions to prevent the average global temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, the threshold beyond which the dangers of global warming grow immensely. But what will it take to get there? In this lesson , students participate in a jigsaw activity to explore seven solutions to climate change, from renewable energy and electric vehicles to nature conservation, carbon capture and more.
6. Invite students to share their thoughts, opinions and concerns with writing prompts.
“How can you not be scared of climate change? Every time you see some news on the state of the planet, can you not feel grief? I know I do,” one student wrote in response to our writing prompt, “ Do You Experience Climate Anxiety? ”
What do your students have to say about climate change? They can weigh in on this question and others about banning plastic bags , the environmental impact of plane travel , whether we should be more optimistic about the planet’s future and more. Find them all in our list of writing prompts below.
7. Apply a math concept to a real-world climate problem: gas or electric cars?
In this lesson , use the familiar formula y=mx+b to help students think through the economic and environmental costs and benefits of electric vehicles. Does “going green” mean saving some “wallet green” too?
8. Learn about climate activism with a video.
What power do ordinary people around the world have to make a difference in the climate crisis? Invite students to watch this eight-minute Opinion video about the teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. Then, they can share what gives them hope in the fight against climate change in our related Film Club .
Students can learn more about Ms. Thunberg and her weekly climate protest in this lesson plan from 2019.

Global warming is the long-term warming of the planet’s overall temperature. Though this warming trend has been going on for a long time, its pace has significantly increased in the last hundred years due to the burning of fossil fuels . As the human population has increased, so has the volume of fossil fuels burned. Fossil fuels include coal, oil, and natural gas, and burning them causes what is known as the “greenhouse effect” in Earth’s atmosphere.
The greenhouse effect is when the sun’s rays penetrate the atmosphere, but when that heat is reflected off the surface cannot escape back into space. Gases produced by the burning of fossil fuels prevent the heat from leaving the atmosphere. These greenhouse gasses are carbon dioxide , chlorofluorocarbons, water vapor , methane , and nitrous oxide . The excess heat in the atmosphere has caused the average global temperature to rise overtime, otherwise known as global warming.
Global warming has presented another issue called climate change. Sometimes these phrases are used interchangeably, however, they are different. Climate change refers to changes in weather patterns and growing seasons around the world. It also refers to sea level rise caused by the expansion of warmer seas and melting ice sheets and glaciers . Global warming causes climate change, which poses a serious threat to life on Earth in the forms of widespread flooding and extreme weather. Scientists continue to study global warming and its impact on Earth.

What is global warming?
What causes global warming, how is global warming linked to extreme weather, what are the other effects of global warming, where does the united states stand in terms of global-warming contributors, is the united states doing anything to prevent global warming, is global warming too big a problem for me to help tackle.
A: Since the Industrial Revolution, the global annual temperature has increased in total by a little more than 1 degree Celsius, or about 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Between 1880—the year that accurate recordkeeping began—and 1980, it rose on average by 0.07 degrees Celsius (0.13 degrees Fahrenheit) every 10 years. Since 1981, however, the rate of increase has more than doubled: For the last 40 years, we’ve seen the global annual temperature rise by 0.18 degrees Celsius, or 0.32 degrees Fahrenheit, per decade.
The result? A planet that has never been hotter . Nine of the 10 warmest years since 1880 have occurred since 2005—and the 5 warmest years on record have all occurred since 2015. Climate change deniers have argued that there has been a “pause” or a “slowdown” in rising global temperatures, but numerous studies, including a 2018 paper published in the journal Environmental Research Letters , have disproved this claim. The impacts of global warming are already harming people around the world.
Now climate scientists have concluded that we must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040 if we are to avoid a future in which everyday life around the world is marked by its worst, most devastating effects: the extreme droughts, wildfires, floods, tropical storms, and other disasters that we refer to collectively as climate change . These effects are felt by all people in one way or another but are experienced most acutely by the underprivileged, the economically marginalized, and people of color, for whom climate change is often a key driver of poverty, displacement, hunger, and social unrest.
A: Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and other air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. Normally this radiation would escape into space, but these pollutants, which can last for years to centuries in the atmosphere, trap the heat and cause the planet to get hotter. These heat-trapping pollutants—specifically carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapor, and synthetic fluorinated gases—are known as greenhouse gases, and their impact is called the greenhouse effect .
Though natural cycles and fluctuations have caused the earth’s climate to change several times over the last 800,000 years, our current era of global warming is directly attributable to human activity—specifically to our burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gasoline, and natural gas, which results in the greenhouse effect. In the United States, the largest source of greenhouse gases is transportation (29 percent), followed closely by electricity production (28 percent) and industrial activity (22 percent). Learn about the natural and human causes of climate change .
Curbing dangerous climate change requires very deep cuts in emissions, as well as the use of alternatives to fossil fuels worldwide. The good news is that countries around the globe have formally committed—as part of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement —to lower their emissions by setting new standards and crafting new policies to meet or even exceed those standards. The not-so-good news is that we’re not working fast enough. To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, scientists tell us that we need to reduce global carbon emissions by as much as 40 percent by 2030. For that to happen, the global community must take immediate, concrete steps: to decarbonize electricity generation by equitably transitioning from fossil fuel–based production to renewable energy sources like wind and solar; to electrify our cars and trucks; and to maximize energy efficiency in our buildings, appliances, and industries.
A: Scientists agree that the earth’s rising temperatures are fueling longer and hotter heat waves, more frequent droughts, heavier rainfall, and more powerful hurricanes .
In 2015, for example, scientists concluded that a lengthy drought in California—the state’s worst water shortage in 1,200 years —had been intensified by 15 to 20 percent by global warming. They also said the odds of similar droughts happening in the future had roughly doubled over the past century. And in 2016, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine announced that we can now confidently attribute some extreme weather events, like heat waves, droughts, and heavy precipitation, directly to climate change.
The earth’s ocean temperatures are getting warmer, too—which means that tropical storms can pick up more energy. In other words, global warming has the ability to turn a category 3 storm into a more dangerous category 4 storm. In fact, scientists have found that the frequency of North Atlantic hurricanes has increased since the early 1980s, as has the number of storms that reach categories 4 and 5. The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season included a record-breaking 30 tropical storms, 6 major hurricanes, and 13 hurricanes altogether. With increased intensity come increased damage and death. The United States saw an unprecedented 22 weather and climate disasters that caused at least a billion dollars’ worth of damage in 2020, but 2017 was the costliest on record and among the deadliest as well: Taken together, that year's tropical storms (including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria) caused nearly $300 billion in damage and led to more than 3,300 fatalities.
The impacts of global warming are being felt everywhere. Extreme heat waves have caused tens of thousands of deaths around the world in recent years. And in an alarming sign of events to come, Antarctica has lost nearly four trillion metric tons of ice since the 1990s. The rate of loss could speed up if we keep burning fossil fuels at our current pace, some experts say, causing sea levels to rise several meters in the next 50 to 150 years and wreaking havoc on coastal communities worldwide.
A: Each year scientists learn more about the consequences of global warming , and each year we also gain new evidence of its devastating impact on people and the planet. As the heat waves, droughts, and floods associated with climate change become more frequent and more intense, communities suffer and death tolls rise. If we’re unable to reduce our emissions, scientists believe that climate change could lead to the deaths of more than 250,000 people around the globe every year and force 100 million people into poverty by 2030.
Global warming is already taking a toll on the United States. And if we aren’t able to get a handle on our emissions, here’s just a smattering of what we can look forward to:
- Disappearing glaciers , early snowmelt, and severe droughts will cause more dramatic water shortages and continue to increase the risk of wildfires in the American West.
- Rising sea levels will lead to even more coastal flooding on the Eastern Seaboard, especially in Florida, and in other areas such as the Gulf of Mexico.
- Forests, farms, and cities will face troublesome new pests , heat waves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding . All of these can damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries.
- Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and alpine meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction.
- Allergies, asthma, and infectious disease outbreaks will become more common due to increased growth of pollen-producing ragweed , higher levels of air pollution , and the spread of conditions favorable to pathogens and mosquitoes.
Though everyone is affected by climate change, not everyone is affected equally. Indigenous people, people of color, and the economically marginalized are typically hit the hardest . Inequities built into our housing , health care , and labor systems make these communities more vulnerable to the worst impacts of climate change—even though these same communities have done the least to contribute to it.
A: In recent years, China has taken the lead in global-warming pollution , producing about 26 percent of all CO2 emissions. The United States comes in second. Despite making up just 4 percent of the world’s population, our nation produces a sobering 13 percent of all global CO2 emissions—nearly as much as the European Union and India (third and fourth place) combined. And America is still number one, by far, in cumulative emissions over the past 150 years. As a top contributor to global warming, the United States has an obligation to help propel the world to a cleaner, safer, and more equitable future. Our responsibility matters to other countries, and it should matter to us, too.
A: We’ve started. But in order to avoid the worsening effects of climate change, we need to do a lot more—together with other countries—to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and transition to clean energy sources.
Under the administration of President Donald Trump (a man who falsely referred to global warming as a “hoax”), the United States withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement, rolled back or eliminated dozens of clean-air protections, and opened up federally managed lands, including culturally sacred national monuments , to fossil fuel development. Although President Biden has pledged to get the country back on track, years of inaction during and before the Trump administration—and our increased understanding of global warming’s serious impacts—mean we must accelerate our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Despite the lack of cooperation from the Trump administration, local and state governments made great strides during this period through efforts like the American Cities Climate Challenge and ongoing collaborations like the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative . Meanwhile, industry and business leaders have been working with the public sector, creating and adopting new clean-energy technologies and increasing energy efficiency in buildings, appliances, and industrial processes. Today the American automotive industry is finding new ways to produce cars and trucks that are more fuel efficient and is committing itself to putting more and more zero-emission electric vehicles on the road. Developers, cities, and community advocates are coming together to make sure that new affordable housing is built with efficiency in mind , reducing energy consumption and lowering electric and heating bills for residents. And renewable energy continues to surge as the costs associated with its production and distribution keep falling. In 2020 renewable energy sources such as wind and solar provided more electricity than coal for the very first time in U.S. history.
President Biden has made action on global warming a high priority. On his first day in office, he recommitted the United States to the Paris Climate Agreement, sending the world community a strong signal that we were determined to join other nations in cutting our carbon pollution to support the shared goal of preventing the average global temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. (Scientists say we must stay below a 2-degree increase to avoid catastrophic climate impacts.) And significantly, the president has assembled a climate team of experts and advocates who have been tasked with pursuing action both abroad and at home while furthering the cause of environmental justice and investing in nature-based solutions.
A: No! While we can’t win the fight without large-scale government action at the national level , we also can’t do it without the help of individuals who are willing to use their voices, hold government and industry leaders to account, and make changes in their daily habits.
Wondering how you can be a part of the fight against global warming? Reduce your own carbon footprint by taking a few easy steps: Make conserving energy a part of your daily routine and your decisions as a consumer. When you shop for new appliances like refrigerators, washers, and dryers, look for products with the government’s ENERGY STAR ® label; they meet a higher standard for energy efficiency than the minimum federal requirements. When you buy a car, look for one with the highest gas mileage and lowest emissions. You can also reduce your emissions by taking public transportation or carpooling when possible.
And while new federal and state standards are a step in the right direction, much more needs to be done. Voice your support of climate-friendly and climate change preparedness policies, and tell your representatives that equitably transitioning from dirty fossil fuels to clean power should be a top priority—because it’s vital to building healthy, more secure communities.
You don’t have to go it alone, either. Movements across the country are showing how climate action can build community , be led by those on the front lines of its impacts, and create a future that’s equitable and just for all .

Global Warming Essay
500+ words global warming essay, its causes, effects and ways to counter it.
Global warming is a serious problem that our planet is facing. The Earth’s average temperature is rising causing a huge change in the Earth’s climate. This rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s surface is caused by an increase in greenhouse gases. Glaciers are melting, the sea levels are rising and life on earth is trying to keep pace with the change. This phenomenon is called global warming, which poses a serious threat to life on our planet. This global warming essay talks about what global warming is, its causes, effects, and ways to reduce it.
What Is Global Warming?
Global warming is the phenomenon where the average temperature of the Earth’s surface gradually rises due to the greenhouse effect. Gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), and water vapor trap the sun’s heat and create a natural “blanket.” This natural blanket prevents the heat from escaping back into the atmosphere and keeps the Earth warm. This effect is called the Greenhouse effect.
The greenhouse effect and greenhouse gases aren’t really bad. In fact, they’re one of the things that keep the Earth warm and makes it a comfortable place to live in. So, these greenhouse gases are crucial to sustain life on earth. Without the greenhouse effect, there would be no natural barrier and the heat from the sun’s radiation would escape back into the atmosphere. This would create a very cold atmosphere making it impossible for living beings to survive. However, an increase in the amount of greenhouse gases traps more of the sun’s radiation. This causes the Earth to heat up and leads to global warming.

Causes Of Global Warming
What is causing global warming? We know that greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect are good. But over the last few centuries, with increased human activity, there has been an increase in the emission of greenhouse gases. This increase in greenhouse gases means more heat is trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere, thus increasing the Earth’s average temperature. The rise in temperature leads to climate change because of which glaciers are melting, sea levels rising, cloud forests dying, etc.
Further, there are several other factors, which contribute to global warming and climate change. Here is a list of the biggest causes of global warming:
- Deforestation
- Burning of fossil fuels
- Industrialization
- Urbanization
- Transportation
- Oil and natural gas drilling
- Power plants
- Garbage in landfills
- Volcanic eruptions
Now that we know the causes of global warming, learn about its effects in this global warming essay.

The Effects Of Global Warming
Global warming is a dangerous phenomenon and has serious repercussions on the environment, ecosystems and life on earth. Global warming and the resulting climate change pose a serious threat to the planet and all life forms on it. Here are some devastating effects of global warming:
- Stress on ecosystems
- Loss of biodiversity and habitat
- Water shortage
- Fire threats like wildfires
- Extreme weather events like heavier rainfall, storms, hurricanes, typhoons, heatwaves, earthquakes etc
- Draught
- Melting polar ice caps and mountain glaciers
- Increase in sea levels and ocean acidification
- Increase in average temperature
- Loss of arable land and crop failures
- Food shortage
- Economic Instability

- Human and animal extinction
Find out what preventive measures you can take to reduce global warming and climate change in this global warming essay.
How To Prevent Global Warming?
The population of the earth is now facing a severe crisis from global warming. If we don’t take steps to prevent it now, global warming could have devastating consequences. Here are some preventive measures we can take to reduce global warming:
- Renewable energy: One of the greatest contributors to global warming is carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels. Shifting to renewable energy will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and can reduce global warming.
- Reuse and recycling: Reusing and recycling reduces waste, which in turn, reduces garbage. Along with this, stop overproduction and overconsumption. This reduces the impact on the environment.
- Save water and energy: Along with producing clean energy, we need to conserve and use energy and water efficiently.
- Sustainable agriculture and transportation: A great way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is to shift to sustainable agriculture practices and transportation methods. Choose public transportation or carpool, or use electric vehicles to fight global warming.
- Stop deforestation: Deforestation is one of the major contributors to global warming. Stopping deforestation is necessary to combat climate change and global warming. Planting more trees will reduce CO2 emission and improve the air quality.

We are living in an age where there are many threats to the existence of our beautiful planet. But, the most crucial one is global warming. It is a concern among many intellectuals, politicians, researchers, policymakers, geographical experts, etc., as it endangers living beings’ very survival. So, what is global warming? The continuous rise in the temperature of the earth is called global warming. It is said that the earth’s temperature has risen by 0.08 degrees celsius every ten years since 1880. The leading cause behind global warming is human’s careless and excessive use of natural resources. The depletion of green cover and the rise in the greenhouse gases like CO2 in the atmosphere are other factors behind global warming. The primary effect on the planet due to global warming is climate change. We observe a drastic shift in monsoon patterns every year and experience drought and floods like calamities. Many other notable changes are happening due to global warming. For example, heat waves have increased, some crucial animals have extincted, the effect on marine life is relentless, our glaciers have shrunk, and many more. We need to understand this and work on ways to improve the living quality on earth. Initiatives like planting trees, adopting spaces and making them sustainable are ways to improve this world. Even small things like cycling to school instead of using the car or public transport are a small way we can make a difference.
Global warming is such a sensitive issue that needs to be addressed faster. Our future generations are going to play a significant role in the same. So, given below is an essay for class 3 on global warming.
Nature has given us so much to use, enjoy, explore and value. But our greed has destroyed everything- the very purpose of this beautiful earth. Now, we are on the edge of destruction as nature has started showing signs of floods, earthquakes, droughts, etc. But, one of the major challenges we are facing now is global warming, and all the points mentioned above are the outcome of this issue.
What Is Global Warming?
In simple words, global warming is the gradual increase in the earth’s temperature due to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect or greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, etc., are good for the planet as these gases capture the heat from the sun and keep the atmosphere warm and liveable for living beings, but an increase in these greenhouse gases leads to more heat trap on earth which causes unnecessary earth heat up and lead to global warming.
What Are The Causes And Effects Of Global Warming?
There are many causes and effects of global warming –
Causes of Global Warming
- Greenhouse effect or greenhouse gases: Global warming happens when increased greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, and other pollutants absorb the sun’s heat more than the requirement and make the planet hotter.
- Volcanic eruptions: These eruptions increase carbon dioxide, leading to global warming.
- Excessive use of automobiles: Excessive vehicles on the road lead to unnecessary emission of carbon dioxide gas into the environment, which is responsible for global warming.
- Deforestation: The careless cutting of forest for building houses and sky-rises is depleting our green cover. So the absorption of carbon dioxide is decreasing, leading to global warming.
- Fossil fuel burning: Excessive fossil fuel burning leads to unwanted carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Again, contribution to global warming.
Effects of global warming
- Climate change: Researchers agree that climate change is happening due to global warming. Earth’s rising temperature triggers heat waves, excessive rainfall, frequent droughts, etc.
- Disappearing glaciers: Due to the rising temperature of the earth, glaciers are melting rapidly, resulting in rising sea levels.
- Extinct animals: Many animals and birds go extinct due to unfavourable climatic conditions.
- Hampered agriculture: Heavy rainfall in some places, drought in others, and heat waves destroy agriculture.
How Can Global Warming Be Prevented?
- Plant more trees: A collective plantation drive should be initiated to compensate for the green cover. More trees and less CO2 in the environment can lead to controlled global warming.
- Take public transport: Take public transport whenever possible. Don’t use private vehicles for luxury. This way, fewer greenhouse gases will get emitted into the atmosphere, reducing global warming.
- Save energy: Use energy-sufficient appliances at home. Energy efficiency is the most cost-effective way to lessen unwanted environmental emissions.
- Conserve natural resources: We need to stop the irrelevant overuse of our natural resources, which include water, soil, fossils, etc., for a better future and controlled global warming.
By writing an essay on global warming, your child learns about this global concern in detail, and may understand the importance of keeping things in check. They may contribute to taking preventive measures to stop global warming.

Essay on Global Warming
The last few decades have been monumental when it comes to technological development. Humans have developed systems and machines that make our lives easier. Especially during the early modern period from the early 16th century to as far as the late 18the century, also commonly referred to as “The Scientific Revolution” or “The Enlightenment”, modern technology leapt ahead in development in such a short time frame compared to all of history.
However, with the development of society, there has been a severe detriment to the quality of Earth’s environment. One of the most massive threats to the condition of the planet is climate change. Inadequate research and reckless misuse of natural resources are some of the core reasons for the deteriorating condition of the planet.
To understand the concept of Global Warming and its causes and effects, we need to take an in-depth look into many factors that affect the temperature of the planet and what that means for the future of the world. Here is an objective look at the topic of Global Warming and other important related topics.
What is Climate Change?
Ever since the industrial and scientific revolution, Earth is slowly being used up for its resources. Moreover, the onset of the exponential increase in the world’s population is also very taxing on the environment.
Simply put, as the need for consumption of the population increases, both the utilisation of natural resources and the waste generated from the use of said resources have also increased massively.
One of the main results of this over the many years has become climate change. Climate change is not just the rise or fall of temperature of different areas of the world; it is also a change in the rain cycles, wind patterns, cyclone frequencies, sea levels, etc. It affects all major life groups on the planet in some way or the other.
What is Global Warming?
Global Warming is often considered an effect of Climate change. Global Warming is the rapid increase in the temperature of the Earth’s environment that is causing many life-threatening issues to arise.
Global Warming is a dangerous effect on our environment that we are facing these days. Rapid industrialization, increase in the population growth and pollution are causing a rise in Global Warming. Global Warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface during the last century. One of the reasons why Global Warming is dangerous is because it disturbs the overall ecology of the planet. This results in floods, famine, cyclones and other issues. There are many causes and results of this warming and is a danger for the existence of life on earth.
The sign of Global Warming is already visible with many natural phenomena happening around globally, affecting each living species.
Here is some data that can help to give a more precise understanding of the reality of Global Warming in the last few years:
On average, the world’s temperature is about 1.5°C higher than during the start of the industrial revolution in the late 1700s. That may not seem a lot to you, but that is an average estimate. This number is only increasing. Many parts of the world face far more severe changes in temperature that affect the planet’s overall health.
In 1950, the world’s CO 2 emissions were at 6 billion tonnes which had quadrupled in volume until 1990, just 40 years later to 22 billion tonnes. Not only that, unchecked CO 2 emissions today have reached a whopping 35 billion tonnes.
The most evident causes of Global Warming are industrialization, urbanization, deforestation, and sophisticated human activities. These human activities have led to an increase in the emission of Greenhouse Gases, including CO₂, Nitrous Oxide, Methane, and others.
Causes of Global Warming
A variety of reasons causes Global Warming. Some of which can be controlled personally by individuals but others are only expected to be solved by communities and the world leaders and activists at the global level.
Many scientists believe the main four reasons for Global Warming, according to recent studies, are:
Greenhouse gases
Deforestation
Per capita carbon emissions
Global Warming is certainly an alarming situation, which is causing a significant impact on life existence. Extreme Global Warming is resulting in natural calamities, which is quite evident happening around. One of the reasons behind Global Warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases stuck on the earth surface, resulting in the temperature increase.
Similarly, volcanoes are also leading to Global Warming because they spew too much CO₂ in the air. One of the significant causes behind Global Warming is the increase in the population. This increase in the population also results in air pollution. Automobiles release a lot of CO₂, which remains stuck in the earth.
This increase in the population is also leading to deforestation, which further results in Global Warming. More and more trees are being cut, increasing the concentration of CO₂.
The greenhouse is the natural process where the sunlight passes through the area, thus warming the earth's surface. The earth surface releases energy in the form of heat in the atmosphere maintaining the balance with the incoming energy. Global Warming depletes the ozone layer leading to the doom's day.
There is a clear indication that the increase in Global Warming will lead to the complete extinction of life from the earth surface.
Solution for Global Warming
Global Warming can not be blamed on individuals; however, it can be tackled and maintained from worsening starting at the individual level. Of course, industries and multinational conglomerates have higher carbon emissions levels than an average citizen. Still, activism and community effort are the only feasible ways to control the worsening state of Global Warming.
Additionally, at the state or government level, world leaders need to create concrete plans and step programmes to ensure that no further harm is being caused to the environment in general.
Although we are almost late in slowing down the Global Warming rate, it is crucial to find the right solution. From individuals to governments, everyone has to work upon a solution for Global Warming. Controlling pollution, population and use of natural resources are some of the factors to consider. Switching over to the electric and hybrid car is the best way to bring down the carbon dioxide.
As a citizen, it is best to switch over to the hybrid car and to use public transport. This will reduce pollution and congestion. Another significant contribution you can make is to minimize the use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of Global Warming taking years to recycle.
Deforestation is another thing to consider that will help in controlling Global Warming. Planting of more trees should be encouraged to make the environment go green.
Industrialization should be under certain norms. The building of industries should be banned in green zones affecting plants and species. Hefty penalties should be levied on such sectors contributing towards Global Warming.
Effects of Global Warming
Global Warming is a real problem that many want to prove as a hoax for their political benefit. However, as aware citizens of the world, we must make sure only the truth is presented in the media.
Various parts of the environment, both flora and fauna, are directly adversely affected by the damages caused by Global Warming. Wildlife being in danger is ultimately a serious threat to the survival of humanity as we know it and its future.
The effect of Global Warming is widely seen in this decade. Glacier retreat and arctic shrinkage are the two common phenomena seen. Glaciers are melting in a fast way. These are pure examples of climate change.
Rise in sea level is another significant effect of Global Warming. This sea-level rise is leading to floods in low-lying areas. Extreme weather conditions are witnessed in many countries. Unseasonal rainfall, extreme heat and cold, wildfires and others are common every year. The number of these cases is increasing. This will indeed imbalance the ecosystem bringing the result of the extinction of species.
Similarly, marine life is also widely getting affected due to the increase in Global Warming. This is resulting in the death of marine species and other issues. Moreover, changes are expected in coral reefs, which are going to face the end in coming years.
These effects will take a steep rise in coming years, bringing the expansion of species to a halt. Moreover, humans too will witness the negative impact of Global Warming in the end.

FAQs on Global Warming Essay
1. What Global Warming will Cause?
Global warming will have a massive impact on our earth in the end. Flood, extreme weather conditions, famine, wildfire and many more will be the result. There will be hotter days, which will also increase the wildfire and famine. In the past years, many meteorological bureaus have added purple and magenta to the forecast.
Another impact of global warming will be rising sea levels. Increased ocean temperatures will lead to the melting of glaciers and ice caps. Increase in the sea level will lead to floods in many low-lying areas.
The overall ecosystem of nature will be an imbalance. This will affect nature in the long-term.
2. Why Does Global Warming Happen?
There are many reasons for the cause of global warming. There are certain gases in the atmosphere called greenhouse gases. The energy then radiates from the surface; the greenhouse gases trap longwave radiation. We humans have added to the atmospheric blanket of greenhouse affecting the living species. Warming of air, oceans, and land is how global warming happens.

Since the industrial and scientific revolutions, Earth’s resources have been gradually depleted. Furthermore, the start of the world’s population’s exponential expansion is particularly hard on the environment. Simply put, as the population’s need for consumption grows, so does the use of natural resources , as well as the waste generated by that consumption.
Climate change has been one of the most significant long-term consequences of this. Climate change is more than just the rise or fall of global temperatures; it also affects rain cycles, wind patterns, cyclone frequencies, sea levels, and other factors. It has an impact on all major life groupings on the planet.

What is Global Warming?
Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century, primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels . The greenhouse gases consist of methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, carbon dioxide, water vapour, and chlorofluorocarbons. The weather prediction has been becoming more complex with every passing year, with seasons more indistinguishable, and the general temperatures hotter. The number of hurricanes, cyclones, droughts, floods, etc., has risen steadily since the onset of the 21st century. The supervillain behind all these changes is Global Warming. The name is quite self-explanatory; it means the rise in the temperature of the Earth.

According to recent studies, many scientists believe the following are the primary four causes of global warming:
- Deforestation
- Greenhouse emissions
- Carbon emissions per capita
Extreme global warming is causing natural disasters , which can be seen all around us. One of the causes of global warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases that become trapped on the earth’s surface, causing the temperature to rise. Similarly, volcanoes contribute to global warming by spewing excessive CO2 into the atmosphere.
The increase in population is one of the major causes of Global Warming. This increase in population also leads to increased air pollution . Automobiles emit a lot of CO2, which remains in the atmosphere. This increase in population is also causing deforestation, which contributes to global warming.
The earth’s surface emits energy into the atmosphere in the form of heat, keeping the balance with the incoming energy. Global warming depletes the ozone layer, bringing about the end of the world. There is a clear indication that increased global warming will result in the extinction of all life on Earth’s surface.

Everyone, from individuals to governments, must work together to find a solution to Global Warming. Some of the factors to consider are pollution control, population growth, and the use of natural resources.
One very important contribution you can make is to reduce your use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of global warming, and recycling it takes years. Another factor to consider is deforestation, which will aid in the control of global warming. More tree planting should be encouraged to green the environment. Certain rules should also govern industrialization. Building industries in green zones that affect plants and species should be prohibited.

Here are some sample essays on Global Warming:
Global Warming is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide levels in the earth’s atmosphere and is a result of human activities that have been causing harm to our environment for the past few centuries now. Global Warming is something that can’t be ignored and steps have to be taken to tackle the situation globally. The average temperature is constantly rising by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the last few years. The best method to prevent future damage to the earth, cutting down more forests should be banned and Afforestation should be encouraged. Start by planting trees near your homes and offices, participate in events, and teach the importance of planting trees. It is impossible to undo the damage but it is possible to stop further harm.

Over a long period, it is observed that the temperature of the earth is increasing. This affected wildlife , animals, humans, and every living organism on earth. Glaciers have been melting, and many countries have started water shortages, flooding, and erosion and all this is because of global warming. No one can be blamed for global warming except for humans. Human activities such as gases released from power plants, transportation, and deforestation have increased gases such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere. The main question is how can we control the current situation and build a better world for future generations. It starts with little steps by every individual. Start using cloth bags made from sustainable materials for all shopping purposes, instead of using high-watt lights use energy-efficient bulbs, switch off the electricity, don’t waste water, abolish deforestation and encourage planting more trees. Shift the use of energy from petroleum or other fossil fuels to wind and solar energy. Instead of throwing out the old clothes donate them to someone so that it is recycled. Donate old books, don’t waste paper. Above all, spread awareness about global warming. Every little thing a person does towards saving the earth will contribute in big or small amounts. We must learn that 1% effort is better than no effort. Pledge to take care of Mother Nature and speak up about global warming.

Global warming isn’t a prediction, it is happening! A person denying it or unaware of it is in the most simple terms complicit. Do we have another planet to live on? Unfortunately, we have been bestowed with this one planet only that can sustain life yet over the years we have turned a blind eye to the plight it is in. Global warming is not an abstract concept but a global phenomenon occurring ever so slowly even at this moment.
Global Warming is a phenomenon that is occurring every minute resulting in a gradual increase in the Earth’s overall climate. Brought about by greenhouse gases that trap the solar radiation in the atmosphere, global warming can change the entire map of the earth, displacing areas, flooding many countries, and destroying multiple lifeforms. Extreme weather is a direct consequence of global warming but it is not an exhaustive consequence. There are virtually limitless effects of global warming which are all harmful to life on earth.
The sea level is increasing by 0.12 inches per year worldwide. This is happening because of the melting of polar ice caps because of global warming. This has increased the frequency of floods in many lowland areas and has caused damage to coral reefs. The Arctic is one of the worst-hit areas affected by global warming. Air quality has been adversely affected and the acidity of the seawater has also increased causing severe damage to marine life forms. Severe natural disasters are brought about by global warming which has had dire effects on life and property.
As long as mankind produces greenhouse gases, global warming will continue to accelerate. The consequences are felt at a much smaller scale which will increase to become drastic shortly. The power to save the day lies in the hands of humans, the need is to seize the day. Energy consumption should be reduced on an individual basis. Fuel-efficient cars and other electronics should be encouraged to reduce the wastage of energy sources. This will also improve air quality and reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is an evil that can only be defeated when fought together.
It is better late than never. If we all take steps today, we will have a much brighter future tomorrow. Global warming is the bane of our existence and various policies have come up worldwide to fight it but that is not enough. The actual difference is made when we work at an individual level to fight it. Understanding its import now is crucial before it becomes an irrevocable mistake. Exterminating global warming is of utmost importance and each one of us is as responsible for it as the next.
Always hear about global warming everywhere, but do we know what it is? The evil of the worst form, global warming is a phenomenon that can affect life more fatally. Global warming refers to the increase in the earth’s temperature as a result of various human activities. The planet is gradually getting hotter and threatening the existence of lifeforms on it. Despite being relentlessly studied and researched, global warming for the majority of the population remains an abstract concept of science. It is this concept that over the years has culminated in making global warming a stark reality and not a concept covered in books.
Global warming is not caused by one sole reason that can be curbed. There are multifarious factors that cause global warming most of which are a part of an individual’s daily existence. Burning of fuels for cooking, in vehicles, and for other conventional uses, a large amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, and methane amongst many others is produced which accelerates global warming. Rampant deforestation also results in global warming as lesser green cover results in an increased presence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas.
Finding a solution to global warming is of immediate importance. Global warming is a phenomenon that has to be fought unitedly. Planting more trees can be the first step that can be taken toward warding off the severe consequences of global warming. Increasing the green cover will result in regulating the carbon cycle. There should be a shift from using nonrenewable energy to renewable energy such as wind or solar energy which causes less pollution and thereby hinder the acceleration of global warming. Reducing energy needs at an individual level and not wasting energy in any form is the most important step to be taken against global warming.
The warning bells are tolling to awaken us from the deep slumber of complacency we have slipped into. Humans can fight against nature and it is high time we acknowledged that. With all our scientific progress and technological inventions, fighting off the negative effects of global warming is implausible. We have to remember that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our future generations and the responsibility lies on our shoulders to bequeath them a healthy planet for life to exist.

Global Warming and Climate Change are two sides of the same coin. Both are interrelated with each other and are two issues of major concern worldwide. Greenhouse gases released such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere cause Global Warming which leads to climate change. Black holes have started to form in the ozone layer that protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays. Human activities have created climate change and global warming. Industrial waste and fumes are the major contributors to global warming. Another factor affecting is the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and also one of the reasons for climate change. Global warming has resulted in shrinking mountain glaciers in Antarctica, Greenland, and the Arctic and causing climate change. Switching from the use of fossil fuels to energy sources like wind and solar. When buying any electronic appliance buy the best quality with energy savings stars. Don’t waste water and encourage rainwater harvesting in your community.

Global Warming Essay
Global warming refers to the rise in average surface temperature of the earth. Global warming is caused mainly due to human induced factors. The main cause of global warming is the uncontrolled emission of green house gases due to activities like industrialization and burning of fossil fuel. Green house gases, cause an effect known as the green house effect, and trap the Sun’s heat from escaping back into the atmosphere, consequently resulting in a raised surface temperature of earth. Though, the rise in earth’s temperature is within 1 degree C, it still causing noticeable affects on the environment. Unexpected climatic changes, floods, droughts, rise in ocean water level, melting glaciers, depleting aquatic and land species are only few of the devastating effects of Global Warming.

Global Warming Essay 1 (100 words)
Global warming is a major atmospheric issue all over the world. Our earth’s surface becoming hot day by day by trapping the sun’s heat and rise in the level of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The bad effects of it increasing day by day and causing major problems to the living of human being. It has become one of the subjects of big social issues which need social awareness to a great level. People should know its meaning, causes, effects and solutions to solve it immediately. People should come forth together and try to solve it in order to save life on the earth.

Global Warming Essay 2 (150 words)
Global warming is a big issue of the atmosphere on the earth which cause continuous rise in the surface temperature of the Earth. It has been estimated that in next 50 or 100 year the temperature of earth would be increased to a great level which would create big problem of living on earth. The highly known and most basic cause of increasing the Earth’s temperature is continuous rise in the atmospheric carbon dioxide.
Rise in the carbon dioxide level is the use fossil fuels like coal and oil, deforestation (cut down of plants) by the human beings on Earth. Decreasing number of the plants on the earth increases the level of carbon dioxide, as plants are the main source of the using carbon dioxide released by the human being (as a by-product of respiration) and other means. Increasing level of Earth’s temperature creates lots of problems like sea level becomes hotter and higher, glaciers melt, flood, strong storms, lack of food, diseases, death, etc.
Global Warming Essay 3 (200 words)
Global warming is the steady and continuous rise in the level of earth temperature. Out earth surface is becoming hotter day by day just because of some unnoticeable habits of human beings all across the world. Global warming has become the most worrying threat for the earth’s atmosphere as it is reducing the life possibilities on the earth day by day through a continuous and steady declining process.
Before planning the solutions of the global warming, we must think about the causes and effects of it on the atmosphere in order to get sure that we are in right direction of getting full relief from this issue. The continuous warming of the earth surface is the increasing emission of CO2 in the environment. However, the increasing level of CO2 is caused due to many reasons like deforestation, use of coal, oil, gas, burning of fossil fuels, burning of gasoline for transportation, unnecessary use of electricity, etc which in turn causes rise in earth temperature.
Again it becomes the reason of rising sea level, occurrence of flooding, storms, cyclone, ozone layer damage, changing weather patterns, fear of epidemic diseases, lack of food, death, etc. We cannot blame any single entity for this as each and every human being is responsible for the increasing threat of global warming which can be solved only by the global awareness and kind efforts of everyone.
Global Warming Essay 4 (250 words)
Global warming is a steady process of continuous rise in the level of Earth temperature. Global warming has become one of the biggest problems faced by the world now. It is believed that increasing level of carbon dioxide gas and other greenhouse gases on the earth are the main reasons of heating the atmosphere of earth. If it is not noticed and solved immediately by the efforts of all countries worldwide, it would boom its effects and cause end of life on the earth a day.
Its threatening effects are increasing day by day and creating danger for human life. Global warming is the main and only reason of rising sea level, flooding, changes in weather patterns, storms, cyclone, epidemic diseases, lack of food, death, etc. The only solution to solve the issue of global warming is the individual level social awareness. People must be aware of its meaning, cause, bad effects and other things about global warming to get it eradicated from worldwide and make the possibilities of life on earth forever as usual.
People should stop producing C02 by just stopping their bad habits such as stop the use of oil, coal and gas, inhibit cutting plants (as they are main source to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen), minimize the use of electricity, etc. Just small changes in everyone’s life all over the world, we can be able to stop the huge negative changes in the atmosphere by lessening the effects of global warming and even stop it a day.
Global Warming Essay 5 (300 words)
Global warming is the continuous rise in warming of the earth’s surface due to the increased level of carbon dioxide gas in the environment. Global warming has become a big issue which need to be solved by the positive initiation of countries all over the world. As gradual increase in the earth temperature calls various threats as well as makes the existence of life hard on this planet. It enhances the gradual and permanent changes in the earth’s climate and thus affecting the nature’s balance.
Rise in the CO2 level on the earth impacts the human life to a great level through continued heat waves, sudden occurrence of strong storms, unpredictable and unexpected cyclone, damage to ozone layer, floods, heavy rain, drought, lack of food, diseases, death etc. It has been researched that increasing emissions of CO2 in the atmosphere is because of the nonstop burning of fossil fuels, usage of fertilizers, cutting forests, extra use of electricity, gases used in refrigerator etc. According to the statistics, it has been noted that by 2020 global warming may boom its bad effects if it is not taken under control as CO2 emissions are increasing continuously.
The increasing level of CO2 causes greenhouse effect on the earth in which all the greenhouse gases (water vapour, CO2, methane, ozone) absorbs thermal radiation, which in turn re-radiated to all directions and come back to earth surface causing increase in the temperature of earth surface and lead to global warming.
In order to stop the life threatening effects of the global warming, we should take a permanent break from all the bad habits causing increase in the CO2 level and other green house gases leading to the green house effect and then earth surface warming. We should stop deforestation, lessen the use of electricity, stop the burning of wood, etc.
Global Warming Essay 6 (400 words)
Global warming is the big environmental issue we are facing today as a greatest challenge which we need to get it solved permanently. In fact, global warming is the continuous and steady process of increasing in the temperature of earth surface. It needs to be discussed widely by all countries worldwide to stop the effects of it. It has impacted the nature’s balance, biodiversity and climatic conditions of the earth over decades.
Green house gases like CO2, methane are the main reasons of increasing the global warming on the earth which directly impacts the rising sea levels, melting ice caps, glaciers, unexpected changing climate which represents life threats on the earth. According to the statistic, it has been estimated that earth temperature has increased to a great level since mid 20 th century due to the increased atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations globally because of the increased demand of the human living standard.
It has been measured that year like 1983, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991 as the warmest six years of the past century. This increasing global warming calls the unexpected disasters on the earth like flood, cyclones, tsunami, drought, landslides, ice melting, lack of food, epidemic diseases, death etc thus causing imbalance to the nature’s phenomenon and indicating end of life existence on this planet.
Increasing global warming lead to the more water evaporation from earth into the atmosphere, which in turn become a greenhouse gas and again causes rise in the global warming. Other processes like burning of fossil fuels, use of fertilizers, rise in other gases like CFCs, tropospheric ozone and nitrous oxide are also the reasons of global warming. The ultimate causes of such reasons are the technological advancement, population explosion, increasing demand of industrial expansion, deforestation, priority towards urbanization, etc.
We are disturbing the natural processes through the deforestation and use of technological advancement like global carbon cycle, making hole in ozone layer, etc and allowing the UV rays to come on earth thus increasing global warming. Plants are the ultimate source of removing extra carbon dioxide from the air and making it in balance thus by just stopping the deforestation and enhancing people for more plantation we can get success of reducing the global warming to a great level. Controlling the population growth is also a great hand towards reducing the global warming all through the world as it lessens the use of destructive technologies on the earth.
Global Warming Essay 7 (800 words) (Long Essay)
What is Global Warming
Global warming is a gradual process of heating of earth’s surface and whole environment including oceans, ice caps, etc. The global rise in atmospheric temperature has been clearly noticed in the recent years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in the past century there is increase in the earth’s surface average temperature by around 1.4 degree Fahrenheit (means 0.8 degrees Celsius). It has also been estimated that global temperature may increase by another 2 to 11.5 degrees F in the next century.
Causes of Global Warming
There are many causes of the global warming, some are natural causes and some are human made causes. The most important cause of global warming is greenhouse gases which are generated by some natural processes as well as human activities. The increase in the level of green house gases has been seen in the 20 th century because of the increasing population, economy and use of energy. Increasing demand of industrialization in the modern world to fulfill almost each need is causing the release of variety of green house gases through many industrial processes in the atmosphere.
The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) gas has been increased in the recent years by 10-fold. The release of carbon dioxide gas varies according to the natural and industrial processes including photosynthesis and oxidation cycles. Methane is another green house gas release in the atmosphere by the anaerobic decomposition of organic materials. Other greenhouse gases are like oxides of nitrogen (nitrous oxide), halocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chlorine and bromine compounds, etc. Such green house gases get collected to the atmosphere and disturb the radiative balance of atmosphere. They have capability to absorb heat radiations and cause warming of the earth surface.
Another cause of global warming is ozone depletion means declination of ozone layer over Antarctica. Ozone layer is declining day by day by increasing release of chlorofluorocarbon gas. It is a human generated cause of global warming. Chlorofluorocarbon gas is used at many places as aerosol propellants in the industrial cleaning fluids and in the refrigerators, the gradual release of which causes declination to the ozone layer in the atmosphere.
Ozone layer causes protection to the earth surface by inhibiting the harmful sun rays to coming to the earth. However, gradually declining ozone layer is the big indication of increasing global warming of the earth surface. Harmful ultraviolet sun rays are entering to the biosphere and get absorbed by the green houses gases which ultimately increase the global warming. According to the statistics, it has been estimated that the size of ozone hole has been twice the size of Antarctica (more than 25 million km2) by 2000. There is no any clear trend of ozone layer declination in the winter or summer seasons.
Presence of various aerosols in the atmosphere is also causing earth’s surface temperature to increase. Atmospheric aerosols are fully capable to scatter (causes cooling to the planet) and absorb (makes air warm) the solar and infrared radiations. They are also capable to change the microphysical and chemical properties of the clouds and possibly their lifetime and extent. The increasing amount of aerosols in the atmosphere is because of human contribution. Dust is produced by agriculture, organic droplets and soot particles are produced by biomass burning, and aerosols are produced by the industrial processes through the burning of wide variety of products in the manufacturing process. Various emissions by means of transport generate different pollutants which get converted to the aerosols through many chemical reactions in the atmosphere.
Effects of Global Warming
The effects of global warming have been very clear in the recent years because of increasing sources of global warming. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it has been recorded that there were 150 glaciers located in the Montana’s Glacier National Park however because of increasing effect of global warming, only 25 glaciers are left. Huge level climate changes are making hurricanes more dangerous and powerful. Natural storms are getting so strong by taking energy from temperature difference (of cold upper atmosphere and warm Tropical Ocean). Year 2012 has been recorded as hottest year since 1895 and year 2013 together with 2003 as the warmest year since 1880.
Global warming causes lot of climate changes in the atmosphere such as increasing summer season, decreasing winter season, increasing temperature, changes in air circulation patterns, jet stream, rain without season, melting ice caps, declining ozone layer, occurrence of heavy storms, cyclones, flood, drought, and so many effects.
Solutions of Global Warming
Many awareness programmes and programmes to reduce global warming have been run and implemented by the government agencies, business leaders, private sectors, NGOs, etc. Some of the damages through global warming cannot be returned by the solution (like melting of ice caps). However, we should not get back and try everyone’s best to reduce the effects of global warming by reducing the human causes of global warming. We should try to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and adopt some climate changes which are already happening for years. Instead of using electrical energy we should try using clean energy or energy produced by solar system, wind and geothermal. Reducing the level of coal and oil burning, use of transportation means, use of electrical devices, etc may reduce the global warming to a great level.

5. Imagine you are the manager of a company that organizes celebrations and parties, and you've been put in charge of organizing a high school dance. Choose any three of Fayol's five management functions and describe what performing that function will look like in preparing for this job.
You must begin by determining who will not be working on the project and who will be working on it. I would also include a list of the items we would require, as well as any decorations. Following that, I'll look at which restaurants I'd like to do catering for. Following the planning step, I must organize the tasks that each employee must do. In addition, I must order the staff in a detailed manner so that they understand their responsibilities.
The day we found the sharks' teeth was foggy and cool. Moisture hung in the air so thick you could almost see it sparkling in the dim sunlight. There were days, early in the summer like this one, where it seemed there was more water in the air than in the bay. We had beached the boat and stepped out on the recently cleared spit of land. The ground had a light dusting of white sand over an under layer of dried black mud. It looked like a recently frosted chocolate cake, though the frosting was spread a bit thin for my taste. The ground was solid, but we knew from experience that it was full of fiddler crab holes, and would be underwater at the first super-high tide. Mysteriously, to us anyway, someone wanted to build a house there. We often came to these spots to look for artifacts. Our beach, our summer home, had been a fishing camp for as long as anyone living could remember. The oldest stories told of travelers coming down to the edge of the sea, lining up to fill their wagon beds with salted fish to take back home. Old decaying cabins still lined the beach. Rotting nets, hung out to dry in the last century, decorated their weathered walls. Their broken faces spun stories in our minds. The fishermen who, tanned and wrinkled from sun and salt, hauled their nets full of splashing mullet in to cheers from the waiting crowds. The bounty of the sea lightened everyone's hearts, and the smell of roasting fish filled the damp air. Women fanned themselves from wagon seats. Children splashed in the shallow edges of the bay. It was a scene we had acted out as youngsters, building an imaginary bridge to a life we would never fully know. What line from the text introduces an element of the plot? A. Moisture hung in the air so thick you could almost see it sparkling in the dim sunlight B. We often came to these spots to look for artifacts. C. Our beach, our summer home, had been a fishing camp for as long as anyone living could remember D. The bounty of the sea lightened everyone's hearts

Andrea Mathews looked at the tiny hat in his hands and felt jumpy.
He walked over to the window and reflected on his beautiful surroundings. He had always loved grey Amsterdam with its lonely, light lakes. It was a place that encouraged his tendency to feel jumpy.
Then he saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Jona Thunder. Jona was a clever coward with brunette hair.
Andrea gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was tall with thick eyebrows and wide thighs. His friends saw him as courageous. Once, he had even brought a knowing puppy back from the brink of death.
But not even a special person who had once brought a knowing puppy back from the brink of death, was prepared for what Jona had in store today.
The snow flurried like singing foxes, making Andrea relaxed.
As Andrea stepped outside and Jona came closer, he could see the vigorous glint in his eye.
Jona glared with all the wrath of 7897 wild bored bears. He said, in hushed tones, "I hate you and I want a fight."
Andrea looked back, even more relaxed and still playing with the tiny hat. "Lets do this," he replied.
They looked at each other with confident feelings, like two hard, hungry guys looking for a fight.
Andrea stepped forward and as he did his hat transformed into a sword.
Jona looked surprised, but he didnt let the surprise weapon stop him from drawing out his own sword.
And then the fight began.
Me and my girl friend, Vanessa, collect odd things.
When I say odd, I mean disturbing. Glass jars full of pickled snakes, fish, slugs, and any other gross creature we happen to like. We have bones scattered everywhere around our house in the forms of jewelry, wall pieces, art, statues, ect. We have dead taxidermy mice, snakes, squirrels, and even a cat that used to be Vanessa's. We don't pickle or taxidermy them ourselves, we just find them from scary estate sales, antique sales, or stores.
One day, while looking for an anniversary gift for Vanessa, I came across a black magic shop. I know she likes the concept of black magic, and very creepy things, so I decided to go in. The shop smelled like old socks and cloves, and it was dark. There were books of all kinds, spices, jars, sage sticks, and different charms around the entire store. As I was looking around the store, a man comes out from the back of the shop, holding a box full of bottles.
"Can I help you with anything?" The man asked, and I nodded.
"Uh, yeah, my girl friend and I have been together for about 5 years, and I was looking for an anniversary gift for her. Got any ideas for me? She really likes odd things, ya' know?"
He nods, and beckons me over to the counter. I put down the jar I was examining, and walk over. He disappears into the back again, and comes back out with a doll that is made out of wood.
"Does she like dolls? Maybe she'll like to have Karlie. I've been looking for a home for her for many years, but well... You know the stigma of scary looking dolls. She isn't haunted, I promise, just a little odd looking." He explained, and I was ecstatic. Yeah, the doll looked scary, but the scarier the better, honestly. It means Vanessa would like it even more. It's head was very round, with painted rosy cheeks and dark painted on eyes. It's nose and ears were sticking out, and it's hair was made of yarn.
"Oh, my God. She'll love it. She has an entire room at home full of weird dolls and such. Thank you so much sir! How much?" I asked, pulling out my wallet.
"Oh, no. You don't have to pay anything. Karlie here has been living in my shop for so long, she's free. Take her." He said, smiling at the doll then holding her out for me. "You take good care of her now," he says. "If you ever need her repaired, just bring her back here. I'll do it for free."
I was a little shocked by how nice he was being, but nodded in agreement. "Of course. My girl friend takes care of all her stuff."
Later that evening, after we had dinner and went on a well deserved date night, it was time for me to give her the gift.
"Hey, I got you something." I said, and picked up the shoe box from the floor beside the couch, and handed it to her.
"Oh, thank you, Kevin! I love it so, so much!" She said after she opened it, flinging her arms around me. "What's her name?"
"Karlie. The man at the store called her Karlie. She'll look good with the rest of your collection, huh?" I asked, and she nodded enthusiastically, hugging the doll to her chest.
"I love you, Kevin," She said, and I smiled.
That night, she decided to sleep with the doll in our room, and I had no objections. I was just so glad that she loved it, I didn't care what she did with it. She can be hard to shop for, since she's already seen everything weird and has everything she could want.
But, later that night, I swore I could hear a baby crying. I woke up to hear Vanessa talking quietly, and a baby crying so loud that it was almost ear splitting.
"Shh, shh, it's okay Karlie, I know he gave you away, but I'm gonna take good care of you." My heart stopped. You'd think someone who collects the most odd things imaginable would be used to scary things happening, but really, that's not true. This has never happened before. Watching my girl friend talk to a crying doll that I swear wasn't alive earlier is one of the weirdest things that has ever happened. Ever.
"Vanessa? Why are you talking to the doll?" I asked, she looked at me like I was a dunce.
"Her father just gave her away like that. The man who created her, the shop owner." She explained to me, cradling the wooden baby.
Instead of freaking out, like any sane person would, I just nodded. I nodded and let her cradle that baby, and act like it was real. I heard it too, so she's not the only one. I never even really questioned it after a while, just kind of went with it.
I don't exactly remember when we started treating it like a real baby, but it just sort of happened. Vanessa wanted the doll to keep from getting mad, so she gave her the best life she possibly could. And I just went with it. I mean, what else could you do? So that is how we became parents. Of a wooden doll.

30% of global businesses expect to use fossil fuels into the 2050s, despite ‘net zero’ commitments

Good morning, Peter Vanham here in Geneva, filling in for Alan. With All Hallows’ Eve behind us, it’s November, and that means the latest UN Climate Summit is around the corner, starting at the end of this month in Dubai. The conference is meant to herald a new era of climate action, but the ghouls of a fossil fuel past will continue to haunt the world long into the future, the “ We Mean Business Coalition ,” a group of organizations and companies committed to corporate climate action, said yesterday.
As it stands, some 30% of global businesses still expect to rely on fossil fuels well into the 2050s, the coalition’s survey of some 250 business leaders found. That’s despite the vast majority of those surveyed aiming for “net zero” emissions by 2050 or before.
That finding is no surprise for those of us in the weeds of the green energy transition, due to “hard-to-abate” sectors like steel and cement production, aviation, and shipping. Technological, pricing, and supply challenges are preventing the adoption of clean alternatives.
The finding also means that anyone aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius—agreed upon at the 2015 Paris climate summit—must acknowledge that the current approach of multilateral climate diplomacy isn’t working.
“The Paris Agreement has been catalytic for global climate action,” Katherine Dixon, a partner at consulting firm Bain and an author of the report, told me. “But […] the Paris system of [nationally defined contributions] that we are relying on is not enough.”
Instead of countries arguing over emissions goals, she said, a better strategy would be to rely more on commercial innovation and industrial policy. “It is [the] interplay of business innovation, industrial policy, and availability of capital—not emissions targets—that drives change,” she said.
Business leaders acknowledge that the most effective carrots and sticks come from government. In the survey, they placed “regulation” well ahead of investor and customer pressure as the main lever of change.
The take-away? If you’re a business leader, expect more Inflation Reduction Acts and Green Deals in the future. They may not solve every problem posed by the energy transition, but they are almost certain to be a part of any future climate policy equation.
Separately, Rob Lake and Jennifer Tejada, respectively the CEOs of Boulevard and PagerDuty, argue in the latest installment of our CEO Initiative essay series that an iterative, experimental and ethical approach to generative AI can help it become the “most significant technological shift” in decades.

Climate change describes a change in the typical weather for a region — such as high and low temperatures and amount of rainfall — over a long period of time. Scientists have observed that, overall, Earth is warming. In fact, many of the warmest years on record have happened in the past 20 years.
Global warming is affecting the climatic conditions of Earth. In this essay, we will discuss the causes, harmful effects, and solutions to treat global warming. This is the best global warming essay for kids because we have focused more on children ages 6 to 15. The students from class 3 to 6 can refer to this essay to understand global warming ...
Introduction The average surface temperature on Earth is slowly increasing. This trend is known as global warming. Greenhouse Effect To understand global warming, it helps to understand the greenhouse effect. A greenhouse is a glass house where plants grow. Glass lets light in and keeps heat from escaping.
Q.1 List the causes of Global Warming. A.1 There are various causes of global warming both natural and manmade. The natural one includes a greenhouse gas, volcanic eruption, methane gas and more. Next up, manmade causes are deforestation, mining, cattle rearing, fossil fuel burning and more.
ADVERTISEMENT What is climate change? We investigate… We've all heard of it, but what is climate change and what is it doing to our planet? So, what is climate change? Climate change (or global warming), is the process of our planet heating up.
Global warming, the phenomenon of rising average air temperatures near Earth's surface over the past 100 to 200 years. Although Earth's climate has been evolving since the dawn of geologic time, human activities since the Industrial Revolution have a growing influence over the pace and extent of climate change.

Article Vocabulary Global warming is the long-term warming of the planet's overall temperature. Though this warming trend has been going on for a long time, its pace has significantly increased in the last hundred years due to the burning of fossil fuels. As the human population has increased, so has the volume of fossil fuels burned.
Climate Explained, a part of Yale Climate Connections, is an essay collection that addresses an array of climate change questions and topics, including why it's cold outside if global warming is real, how we know that humans are responsible for global warming, and the relationship between climate change and national security.
Now climate scientists have concluded that we must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040 if we are to avoid a future in which everyday life around the world is marked by its worst ...

It's a really good one. There is no single solution, so let me give you three things that kids can do to help minimize global warming. 1. Conserve energy in your everyday life. Making simple choices to save energy may help avoid the serious consequences of global warming. For example: Turn off the lights.
Global warming is the phenomenon where the average temperature of the Earth's surface gradually rises due to the greenhouse effect. Gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), and water vapor trap the sun's heat and create a natural "blanket.". Global warming is a phenomenon where the earth's average temperature rises due to increased amounts of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and ozone trap the incoming radiation from the sun.
