The Help , Kathryn Stockett's debut novel, tells the story of black maids working in white Southern homes in the early 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi, and of Miss Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, a 22-year-old graduate from Ole Miss, who returns to her family's cotton plantation, Longleaf, to find that her beloved maid and nanny, Constantine, has left and no one will tell her why. Skeeter tries to behave as a proper Southern lady: She plays bridge with the young married women; edits the newsletter for the Junior League; and endures her mother's constant advice on how to find a man and start a family. However, Skeeter's real dream is to be a writer, but the only job she can find is with the Jackson Journal writing a housekeeping advice column called "Miss Myrna." Skeeter knows little about housekeeping, so she turns to her friend's maid, Aibileen, for answers and finds a lot more.
Aibileen works tirelessly raising her employer's child (Aibileen's seventh one) and keeps a tidy house, yet none of this distracts her from the recent loss of her own son who died in an accident at work while his white bosses turned away. Two events bring Skeeter and Aibileen even closer: Skeeter is haunted by a copy of Jim Crow laws she found in the library, and she receives a letter from a publisher in New York interested in Skeeter's idea of writing the true stories of domestic servants.
Skeeter approaches Aibileen with the idea to write narratives from the point of view of 12 black maids. Aibileen reluctantly agrees, but soon finds herself as engrossed in the project as Skeeter. They meet clandestinely in the evenings at Aibileen's house to write the book together as the town's struggles with race heat up all around them. Aibileen brings in her best friend, Minny, a sassy maid who is repeatedly fired for speaking her mind, to tell her story, too. Hearing their stories changes Skeeter as her eyes open to the true prejudices of her upbringing. Aibileen and Minny also develop a friendship and understanding with Skeeter that neither believed possible.
Along the way, Skeeter learns the truth of what happened to her beloved maid, Constantine. Constantine had given birth, out of wedlock, to Lulabelle who turned out to look white even though both parents were black. Neither the black nor the white community would accept Lulabelle, so Constantine gave her up for adoption when she was four years old. When the little girl grew up, she and Constantine were reunited. While Skeeter was away at college, Lulabelle came to visit her mother in Jackson and showed up at a party being held in Skeeter's mother's living room. When Charlotte Phelan discovered who Lulabelle was, she kicked her out and fired Constantine. Constantine had nowhere else to go, so she moved with her daughter to Chicago and an even worse fate. Skeeter never saw Constantine again.
Skeeter's book is set in the fictional town of Niceville and published anonymously. It becomes a national bestseller and, soon, the white women of Jackson begin recognizing themselves in the book's characters. Hilly Holbrook, in particular, is set on vengeance due to the details in the book. Hilly and Skeeter grew up best friends, but they now have very different views on race and the future of integration in Mississippi. Hilly, who leads the Junior League and bosses around the other white women in the town, reveals to Stuart, Skeeter's boyfriend, that she found a copy of the Jim Crow laws in Skeeter's purse, which further ostracizes Skeeter from their community.
In the end, it is a secret about Hilly that Minny reveals in Skeeter's book that silences Hilly. The book becomes a powerful force in giving a voice to the black maids and causes the community of Jackson to reconsider the carefully drawn lines between white and black.

“I can't believe Aibileen wants to tell Miss Skeeter the truth. Truth. It feels cool, like water washing over my sticky-hot body. Cooling a heat that's been burning me up all my life. Truth, I say inside my head again, just for that feeling.”

“These is white rules. I don’t know which ones you following and which ones you ain’t.” We look at each other a second. “I’m tired of the rules,” I say. -p.155
I shake my head at my friend. “Not only is they lines, but you know good as I do where them lines be drawn.” Aibileen shakes her head. “I used to believe in em. I don’t anymore. They in our heads. People like Miss Hilly is always trying to make us believe they there. But they ain’t.” -p.312

- The Help Summary
The Help focuses on three women in 1960s Jackson Mississippi: Aibileen, who works as a nanny and housekeeper for the Leefolt family; Minny, an outspoken maid; and Skeeter, a recent college graduate. Skeeter longs to pursue a career in writing that will take her beyond the stifling confines of her refined white southern society. Dismayed by the racist Home Help Sanitation Initiative started by her childhood friend Hilly Holbrook , Skeeter starts to think about what it might mean to change attitudes about race in Jackson Mississippi. On the suggestion of Harper and Row editor Elaine Stein , Skeeter starts a dangerous new project: interviewing the maids about what it is like to work as a black maid for a white family. Aibileen and Minny are initially skeptical of this idea, but soon realize that this is an important chance to tell their stories.
Spurred by Hilly's cruel and racist initiatives, the maids of Jackson Mississippi share their stories with Skeeter. Concerned that people will recognize themselves in the book, Minny adds a dark secret about Hilly to the book so that Hilly will stay quiet about the identity of the maids. The book is a surprise hit, generating a great deal of discussion between black and white women. After the success of the novel, Skeeter moves to New York to work in publishing. Aibileen is fired from her job and embarks on a writing career of her own, and Minny leaves her abusive husband.

Our Writers Will Offer You The Best Essay Help In the USA
Any essay help service that offers top-grade papers hinges on its writers. They are like the engine of the writing company that will either keep it moving or stall it altogether. That is why we do not second guess when recruiting writers on our team. You will see that every writer on our team ultimately fought hard to earn a spot there.
The selection process for our essay help writers is one of the strictest in the US. We do not just pick on any freelancer who knocks at our doors looking for a writing job. On the contrary, we deploy the following standards whenever we are recruiting essay helpers:
- Proof of writing experience : Whenever a writer appears on our radar, we first try to ascertain their level of expertise in writing by looking at what they have done. It will include asking for links to previous jobs or submitting sample scripts completed. Once we know that a writer has been writing before, we proceed to the next stage.
- High-level aptitude tests : We give these writers tests related to their niches to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Remember that these are not multiple-choice questions that they can guess and stumble on the right answer. We give them essay assignments in which they write on specific topics as we test various skills.
- Oral interviews will follow : The writers have to appear for an oral interview online or physically to ascertain their communication skills and language mastery. Those who proceed to this stage are only those who perform highly in the aptitude tests above. The oral interviews are intensive, with writers having to solve practical essay problems in the interview.
- Probation period : Successful candidates then proceed to a three-month probation period where we monitor their writing skills. It is the stage where we determine whether they can be part of our essay help team or not. Once they attain the required ratings and reviews during the three months, they can join our team. However, they are subject to monthly reviews to ensure that their standards remain top-notch.
You do not expect a crook to bypass all these stringent processes and become part of our team – they would have to move Mount Everest aside to achieve such a milestone. With such professional essay writers on our team, you cannot fail to score impressive grades. You will have the best helpers and become the best student in your class!

The voice of others always matters when making any sound judgment. The comments and ratings will help you determine the potential of the dissertation service to handle your task. However, it would help always approach these reviews with caution since not all of them are legit.
- Consider their pricing structure.

They should offer reliable platforms to pose your questions and get reliable feedback instantly. Beware of services that use robots and automated systems to respond to questions on the live chat!

Book Review
The book The Help written by Kathryn Stockett is a wonderfully written book that is worthy of being read. Some people who have read The Help do not like it because they believe it is racist and shallow (Maslin). Many more people consider it to be an important work of fiction. Filled with accurate historical information, it deals with important issues past and present. The Help is a brilliantly written novel that gives the reader a deeper understanding of Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s.
The book takes place in the state of Mississippi in the early 1960s. The time and the place already set the groundwork for what will continue to be a great book. Mississippi in the 1960s was in a great uproar over the struggle to preserve racial segregation. Black and white society was relentlessly kept apart. The social, political, and economic rights of blacks were not upheld or protected. In her book The Thunder of Freedom Sue Sojourner speaks of those times with these words: “The system had been denying blacks their voting rights, oppressing them and stifling them in almost every arena for hundreds of years”. She also tells how any attempt to break from these social restrictions was immediately blocked with violence, pressure, and intimidation (Sojourner 27). The setting of this story promises this book will be full of interesting content.
The best features of this book are the characters of the three narrators. The character of Aibileen Clark has been working since she was a teen. Her grandmother was a slave, her mother a maid, and now she too is a maid. At the beginning of the book, Aibileen is 53 years old and has raised 17 white children, the child she is currently raising is the first daughter of her employer. Aibileen is quite intelligent and she loves to write. She lives alone after the death of her son. Minny Jackson is a complex mix of strength and vulnerability (Shmoop). She is a large woman with great physical and mental strength, and she is known for her cooking skills. Yet she is always afraid her husband is going to hit her again or that some white person to betray her. The character of Eugenia ‘Skeeter’ Phelan is full of contradictions. She is a high-society white woman who writes a book about the black women who work as maids in Jackson, Mississippi. She was raised by Constantine, a black woman who influenced her a lot. Not only are the characters interesting and well-described they are also historically accurate. However, some consider the tone of the book to be trite and consider the characters, especially the African American ones to speak with obvious and stereotypical voices Stockett.
Another reason The Help is a great book to read is its historical accuracy. Many historical details are seamlessly included in the story. Historical figures such as Martin Luther King and James Meredith (Stockett 97) are mentioned. The author also includes historical events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the Birmingham Church Bombing. Much of what the author wrote was based on her own experiences growing up in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s (Stockett 525). These details make the novel historically accurate and believable. Some readers however think that The Help is simply a white woman’s imagination of what it would have been like to be a black maid in the 1960s. Many readers have felt outraged at Stockett’s audacity to write such a book something she knows nothing about.
The third reason to like the book is because of the three messages that are taught by the three narrators. The message found in Aibileen’s narrative “You kind. You smart. You important” (Stockett 234) is an attempt to prepare and support the little white child whose mother does not think she is beautiful. Minny’s narrative is fewer words and more actions. The message that she gives is that all people need the same thing: respect. The message from Skeeter spoken by Constantine her old maid is “Ever morning, until you dead in the ground, you gone have to make this decision. You gone have to ask yourself, ‘Am I gone believe what they fools say about me today?” (Stockett 73) Everyone has a choice of what to believe. These three deep and important messages are the foundation of the book. However some critics like Janet Maslin of The New York Times who read the book say that it is ‘shallow, and a poor representation of the truth’. They say it is a feel-good story that does not take into account the full scope of the issue it is discussing.
Those who say that the characters are stereotypical are right. Each character fits nicely into a mold that has been used many times over in fiction writing. The author uses these stereotypes to help the reader get a better understanding of the situation. The characters bring stereotypes to life in an effort to fuel a raging fire. Not only does the author use stereotypes, but she also does not go very deep into the issue it is discussing. In order to fully understand an issue one must first grasp the basics. The Help was not written to dig deeply into the issues it is representing; it was written as a tantalizing promise that if the reader looks further into the issue there is more to come. How does a white woman born in the 1960s know what it was like to be a black maid in the 30s? Stockett does not say she knows, she does not say what she has written is how it was, she has simply written a work of fiction based on historical facts.
- Proper editing and formatting
- Free revision, title page, and bibliography
- Flexible prices and money-back guarantee

The book The Help is a most enjoyable read. It is a celebration of how far society has come and a reminder of how far society still needs to go. It is a story of love and of coming of age. It moves the reader to tears of happiness than tears of pain. It is a masterfully written story of change. The story seamlessly weaves issues of race that are still open wounds today with humor and love and creates characters the reader can identify with. The Help is a book that can melt the heart of even the strongest skeptic.
- Movie Review
“Courage is daring to do what is right, in spite of the weakness of our flesh.” This quote basically describes the entire point this movie is trying to point out to the audience. This movie is similar to the book “To Kill a Mocking Bird”. This has scenes of how blacks are being mistreated in our society.
“The Help” is a movie about how blacks are being mistreated in a 1960s American setting. The movie was directed by Tate Taylor and was inspired by the book made by Kathryn Stockett. The main characters of this movie are Skeeter, Aibileen, and Minny acted by Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer respectively. The main antagonist in this movie name is Hilly acted by Bryce Dallas Howard.
The plot of the movie is that Skeeter gets accepted to a new job in a newspaper company but she is not content with her job as a writer for the cleaning column. So, she uses her free time to make a book about the black maids on their stories, and how they are being mistreated. Her main maid for her book is one of the maids of her friend. And this friend of hers is signing a bill requiring everyone to build toilets for their maids because they have this belief that maids are full of diseases. And this angers Aibileen so she tells Skeeter the stories of her time being a maid. Minny, one of her friends of Aibileen has been fired from her old job and she becomes mad. So, she joins Aibileen in opening up to Skeeter about her life as a maid. After a few times, Skeeter asks Aibileen questions about an incident that happened of a black man getting shot. And that gave Aibileen and Minny more fear about what they are doing. And after some time contemplating they more maids to help them share their stories which helped Skeeter finish her book.
The actors in this movie did an amazing job with the acting. I was convinced by the emotions they were showing. The actors showed their emotions in a very convincing way that I felt what they were feeling. I think that Viola Davis had amazing acting skills throughout the movie. She showed her emotions in such a way that it was fitting for the scene and dialog. She also had the look that convinced me that she was serious.
This movie is not perfect movie. There are many different scenes that are good and there are also bad ones. First, let’s talk about the good scenes, I’ll talk about 2 scenes, in particular, the first one is in the humor side this scene is the scene of Minny giving a pie made of feces to Hilly. Well, this scene just shows how many times the maids wanted to do something bad to their house owners. It shows how much hatred has grown in them for the time they have worked there. We can clearly see her hatred in this scene but it is added with humor. The next scene is an inspirational scene. This is the scene of the Priest giving a very inspirational message on courage. Some of the scenes I don’t like in this movie are the scenes that are really dark. Especially since the movie doesn’t have any very bright colors. I would recommend this movie to people that are having a hard time right now so that they can find inspiration in this movie.
This movie was amazing. I would recommend anyone to watch it if they have the time. This movie is really inspirational and maybe it can help with your everyday problems. This movie really shows us how we mistreated the black before and how much they have suffered more than us.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a novel about black maids in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1962. The black maids work with Skeeter Phelan, a white woman, to create a book depicting their lives. The chapters are narrated through the eyes of three main characters: Aibileen, Minnie, and Skeeter. Descriptions of historical events of the early activities of thecivil rights movement are peppered throughout the novel, as are interactions between the maids and their white employers. The novel is filled with details reminiscent of early-1960s culture in the United States: color televisions replacing black-and-white models, daytime programs with detergent and cleaning product advertisements, and the introduction of the miniskirt and rock-and-roll music add to the authenticity of the background and help make the characters' motivations believable.

Chapter 1 situates the novel in 1962 and is narrated by Aibileen, a black maid working for Mrs. Leefolt by taking care of a toddler, Mae Mobley. Aibileen loves Mae Mobley, as the reader can see by the tenderhearted way she speaks to her, and all the extra care and time she gives to her. Aibileen had a child of her own once, by the name of Treelore, who was accidentally killed at age twenty-four, in an accident at the logging mill. Aibileen shares her story of the logging incident and how she reacted afterward. She was completely devastated by her son's death until her friend Minnie helped her; and she began working with Mrs. Leefolt, taking care of Mae Mobley. This is where the reader learns why Aibileen immersed herself into caring for the child of a white woman; she transferred all her love onto her employer's children.
Aibileen meets Skeeter at Mrs. Leefolt's home, who asks her about cleaning difficult items because she (Skeeter) will be writing a newspaper column on household cleaning. She notices how respectful Skeeter is of her and feels suspicious, but she likes Skeeter and feels she can trust her. In her prayers, she mentions Skeeter. She says:
The thing is though, if I start prayin' for Miss Skeeter, I know that conversation gone continue the next time I see her. And the next..cause that's they way prayer do. It's like electricity, it keeps things going.
Aibileen is very spiritual and her beliefs have kept her hopeful throughout her difficult life. The reader can see that she is a powerful woman.
In chapters 1 and 2, the interactions between the black maids and their white employers are explored. For example, Miss Hilly sits at the head of the Junior League, which represents the high class women in Jackson; she is attempting to institute laws on separate bathrooms for blacks and whites, even in private homes. She wants to go so far as to making it a law so it would be a crime for owners to allow blacks to use white bathrooms. Skeeter thinks this is ridiculous.
Aibileen talks to her friend, Minnie, on the phone who tells her she was fired for stealing but that it is not true. She is worried she will never get another job in Jackson because of Miss Hilly's gossip. The reader can see through the character's dialog and actions how the white women have social power over the black maids by constructing hurtful gossip, to prevent the maids from gaining employment. Most of the white women use their power to control their maids, but Skeeter is different.
Chapters 3 and 4 are narrated by Minnie. She goes for a job interview at Celia Foote's home. She realizes that Celia Foote has not heard the gossip from Hilly about her stealing, so she is relieved. Mrs. Foote is very incompetent as a housekeeper and cook. She wants to hire Minnie but keeps it a secret from his husband so he thinks she is doing the work. Minnie does not like Celia's secrecy but takes the job because it pays $2.00 an hour, which is twice the salary she received at her past position.
Chapters 5 and 6 are narrated by Skeeter. Skeeter is the editor of the Junior League newsletter. She finds herself very different from the other whites her age in Jackson, especially on the civil rights issues. She thinks of the black maids as her equals and believes that the black maid who raised her, Constantine, was more like a mother.

She reminisces a lot about Constantine; it bothers her why Constantine left her household as the maid so abruptly without any explanation. She thinks often about her and even asks Aibilene why Constantine left Jackson unexpectedly. Aibileen says she was fired. Skeeter is confused because her mother told her Constantine left to join her family in Chicago. Skeeter confronts her mother. Her mother gives a lame excuse which Skeeter interprets as prejudice.
Chapter 7 is narrated by Aibileen, who is working at Mrs. Leefolt's home and taking care of Mae Mobley. She and the child are close, almost like mother and daughter. Mrs. Leefolt is strict and judgmental. Aibileen remembers her son Treelore. The anniversary of his death is that day, so she pretends to be sick so she can go home. The next day, Skeeter shows up unexpectedly at Aibileen's house on the poor side of town. She is cautious, wondering why a white woman would come to her neighborhood. Miss Skeeter asks her to help her with the book. She wants Aibileen to tell her about life as a black maid in Jackson. Aibileen politely refuses since blacks are being killed for much less on a daily basis, like using the white's toilet.
Chapters 8 and 9 are narrated by Skeeter. She tells her impressions of Aibileen's neighborhood as she approaches in her Cadillac. The neighbor's are cold and Aibileen only looks down at the ground when she is speaking. Skeeter does not realize why she is so uncomfortable. She returns to her home and receives a phone call from the publisher who likes her idea about a book on the black maids. She is excited. Then she goes to the Wednesday bridge club at Hilly's home; and she goes into the kitchen to talk to Aibileen. She offers Aibileen money in an envelope for helping her with the Miss Myrna letters on housekeeping, but Aibileen thinks it is a bribe to work on the book so she refuses. In chapter 9, it is the day of Skeeter's date. The date begins at 6 p.m. at Hilly's home but since Skeeter has not told her mother, she has to leave in regular work clothes; and she has to take her father's truck with a tractor on it. When she gets to Hilly's, her date, Stuart, has been waiting. He is drunk and sees her truck and tractor and thinks it is the funniest thing he has ever seen. She is humiliated and runs upstairs. Hilly's husband drives him home. Skeeter goes home the next morning and is upset but cannot confide in her mother because she does not even know she had a date the evening before. The phone rings and it is Aibileen. She decides to help her on the book and says she will ask her friend, Minnie, to help her too.
Chapter 10 is narrated by Minnie. Minnie is trying to teach her white employer, Celia Foote, how to bake a pecan pie. That evening she goes to church where she sees Aibileen, who tells her about Miss Skeeter's book. Aibileen asks her to help. She refuses. The next day Celia Foote is not home when Minnie arrives.Mr. Foote suddenly appears in the afternoon and Minnie is startled. He is very nice to her. Skeeter takes her typewriter to Aibileens several times that week and they write a lot. She meets with both Aibileen and Minnie. The publisher phones telling Skeeter to finish the book sooner; Martin Luther King is marching on Washington and they want to print the book soon. Stuart comes to Skeeter's home unexpectedly to apologize; but she is not angry and they go out on for a relaxing dinner and talk. She goes to the library the next day and steals a book on Jim Crow laws because she does not want the librarian to see what she is reading. She sees Hilly later and accidentally leaves her satchel. Hilly finds it and tells her to come get it.
In chapters 14 to 16, narrated by Aibileen, the interviews continue with her and Minnie. All three of them—Skeeter, Aibileen and Minnie—are afraid of what Hilly has seen and if she will discover the book they are writing. Skeeter is at Minnie's house and they are extra worried because the KKK shot Medgar Evers, secretary of the NAACP. They hold a press conference and Jackson, Mississippi and it is on the cover of Life Magazine. Pascagoula hands Skeeter an envelope that contains a letter from Yule May explaining why she cannot help with the book; she is in the penitentiary, accused of stealing a ring from her employer, Hilly. Skeeter goes to Aibileen's and many black people are there including the reverend; they are collecting money to pay for Yule May's son's tuition. Every other night Skeeter goes to Aibileen's house to work on the book. Many different colored maids volunteer to be interviewed. Skeeter and her parents go to the Senator's home for dinner. Skeeter works on the book everyday and wonders what Constantine would think about her.

Her yard is full of toilets of all colors because Skeeter wrote in the newsletter for people to drop them off in her front yard. Aibileen took Mae Mobley outside to look at them. She was trying to use them and many people drove by and were laughing. It makes front page in the Jackson Journal. Hilly is furious and is intent on getting revenge on Skeeter. Aibileen's employer comes home early and tells her not to talk to Skeeter anymore. Martin Luther King is on television everyday.
In chapter 23, Celia Foote goes to Hilly's house in person, to volunteer for the league. Hilly says no but she invites them to the Banquet.
Chapter 24 is narrated by Minnie. A white man stands naked in front of the back door and Minnie tries to chase him away. He attacks and but Miss Celia helps out and stabs him with the fire poker. He manages to creep away. Miss Celia gets ready in a big hot pink dress for the banquet.

She is totally unaware of the socially appropriate attire in Jackson. She tries desperately to become friends with Hilly at the banquet. Accidentally, she rips off the arm of Hilly's dress and then, in a furry, Hilly threatens her, accusing Celia of trying to humiliate her. Celia throws up all over the floor. The incident was the highlight of the banquet.
Chapter 26 is narrated by Minnie who is helping Celia Foote cope withher reaction to the fiasco at the banquet. She threatens to go back to Sugar Bush where she was raised. Minnie calms her down and tells her she cannot let Hilly win by giving up. Celia regains her strength and takes out her frustration by cutting down the mimosa tree.
Chapters 27 and 28 are narrated by Skeeter. The time period is two weeks after the assassination of President Kennedy. Skeeter, Minnie, and Aibileen decide the title of the book will be The Help . Skeeter confronts her mother, even as she lay dying of cancer in her bed, about why Constantine left. Her mother tells her side of the story but there is no redemptive fact in it. Skeeter says, ”I let my head sink into my hands. There is no redeeming piece of the story. I know why Aibileen hadn't wanted to tell me. A child should never know this about her own mother.”
Chapter 29 is narrated by Aibileen. At the church she receives a large box from the back door, when she opens it she sees the book, The Help . She hands out the copies to Minnie and the other maids who were interviewed in the book.
Chapter 30 is narrated by Minnie. The book has been on talk shows and people are guessing what town it is about. Chapter 31 is narrated by Aibileen. She hears Hilly claim to know one of the black maids in the book. Chapter 32 is narrated by Minnie. Aibileen goes to Minnie's house and says Hilly is gossiping about who she thinks is in the book. Minnie wakes up in the night and hears Hilly scream. Chapter 33 is narrated by Skeeter. She wakes up in the middle of the night, thinking about the future and her career and life beyond the provincialism of Jackson. While at the pharmacy she sees an old friend who encourages her, believing that she wrote the book.
After Skeeter goes home, she sees Hilly's car in the driveway. Hilly threatens to sue her for libel because of what she wrote in the book. She tells Aibileen and Minnie that Hilly knows because of a particular description in the novel: the crack in the table. She tells them she has a job offer in New York. Minnie says she and Aibileen will take care of each other but she should go cause she does not have a friend left in Jackson.
Chapter 34 is narrated by Aibileen. Her employers are angry about the book and how Mae Mobley learned about the civil rights actions. She says her teacher taught her, not Aibileen. Skeeter tells Aibileen that she has the Miss Myrna columnist job at the paper, if she wants it. Aibileen hands Skeeter the book signed by all the black maids. Skeeter is going to New York. Aibileen goes to work and Hilly accuses her of stealing silverware. She says she did not do it. She also says she knows a lot about Hilly; and she can write letters from jail to everyone in Jackson. She was fired and she leaves but she is not sorry. She is looking forward to the writing job at the newspaper. She feels hope that maybe she is not too old to start over.

Formulate an excellent thesis statement
Remember that this is an academic assignment. As such, you have to follow all the rules. One of the best ways you will make your essays on book focused is to formulate a very strong thesis statement. This thesis statement is based on the content of the book. It is your stance on the work that you are going to defend through the points you discuss. Your thesis statement ought to be a single sentence or two at most. Use it to pitch your idea to the audience and use as much evidence as possible. The best way to defend your thesis statement is to choose memorable direct quotes from the book to back up your stance on the work.
Your thesis must be insightful enough and must have a very clear counter-argument. For instance, if in the book you believe that the protagonist left his lover because of the tragic upbringing and not because of infidelity and are sure that this argument can sustain your essay, you should sate your stance about hat idea. In most cases, thesis statements are written as the last sentences of the introduction paragraph.
With your thesis statement intact, you already have your thoughts organized. You also have a very good approach that you are going to apply when writing essays on a book.
Formulate a good introduction
This is where you start throwing a spanner into the works. One of the best tricks to know how to write an essay for a book is to grab the attention of the audience from the start; your opening sentence should be striking enough to have the audience drooling for more. This is where you give the background of the book as we as its author. Close your introduction with your thesis statement. This will serve as a reminder to the audience of what the work is all about. It is also a transitional way of introducing the audience to the first topic sentence you are going to talk about in the first paragraph of the body.
The body paragraphs
To write excellent body paragraphs for your essays on a book, you have to present all your arguments. These arguments can never be discussed in a single paragraph. You should divide them into points; then make them topic sentences, each of which takes a single paragraph. The work is to ensure that the topic sentence that you formulate relates to your thesis statement. Remember that everything you are writing here must relate to the book that you are analyzing. The evidence that you use per paragraph must come from the book. This can be direct quotes or paraphrases that are duly cited.
The relevance of the points you make relies on how they connect to the central argument. As such, one of the ways to know how to write an essay on a book It ensures that he pieces of evidence and information you use are strong enough to prove your claims about the book, since you are trying to tell the audience if the book is worth it or not, you should be very convincing enough. Analyze, interpret, and present specific themes within the book. It can be themes, character motivations, rising actions, and all other elements of the book that you think will adequately support the central theme of your essay.
This should happen for every paragraph you write. If you have three body paragraphs, ensure they have distinct evidence from the book as support, and by far, they should help you prove what you want the audience to know. Remember that you are trying to give an honest opinion that is based on facts, albeit from your point of view. As such, work hard to defend it.

Using transitions in our work
Another tip of knowing how to write an essay on a book is that you have to use transition. This enhances the flow of your ideas. The audience can follow how you organize your thoughts easily. This not only adds to the readability of your paper but also positions you to get a good grade in the end. The smooth transition from claim to claim makes it easier for the audience to piece all your positions together. They will see the value of your argument. The idea o using transitions is no only used when writing essays on a book, but also in other academic writing tasks. Transitions make your essay more cohesive, thereby achieving its goal easily.
Write your conclusion
This is the last chance you have of making a lasting impression on your audience. It is a time tom wrap the work and ensures that the audience is left with something to think about. The conclusion of your essays on a book allows you to restate your thesis statement. When doing so, you are not necessarily writing it verbatim as it is I the introduction. Some other words that do not negate its meaning in the first place. More so, you can also summarize the points that you have discussed in the body of your essays on book. Emphasize more on the significance of the work. Let the audience know if you are going to recommend it for them. However, the concludes is no to place where you can introduce new evidence or facts or anything else that you ave not discussed on the body of your paper. That would be too much and rightly so because it would go through the readers into confusion.
Revise and edit your work
For you to ensure you have covered everything well in that paper, revise everything. You can go through it to ensure you have covered everything you wanted in it. The idea is to ensure that the paper represents your points well. It is also a way to check whether you have covered all the aspects outlined by your instructor. Rest assured that you would have achieved a very crucial goal of writing a review about a literary work.
As you proofread, look at the grammatical mistakes, punctuation’s as well as the spelling of words, the idea is to ensure that you present a paper that is free of mistakes. Once you are satisfied with your revision and proofreading , you can prepare the final copy of your wok.

Analysis Of The Movie ' The Help ' Essay
Prejudice and racism in the help by kathryn stockett.
The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett, is set in Jacksonville, Mississippi during the 1960’s — a time when white people were considered superior to blacks in the southern United States. Throughout most of the book, we follow the story of a white woman named Skeeter Phelan, who gathers stories from the black women, called ‘the help’, about their work as maids inside of the white peoples homes, and compiles them into a book. The goal of this book is to expose (and eventually get rid of) the racism that these black women are faced with working for their white families. Most of the white people grew up with the help doing whatever they were asked and in turn were exposed to racial inferiority as a normal occurrence.

African Americans And The American Culture Essay
African American’s role in this country has been long and has never been easy. During the early years of the United States, African Americans endure the hardship of slavery and had to deal with beatings, harsh working conditions and constant yelling from their racist white owners. A perfect way to examine a pivotal time in American History of African Americans and the racism they went through is seen in the movie “The Help”. The movie is set to take place “in Mississippi during the 1950s-1960s, Skeeter is a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends ' lives -- and a Mississippi town -- upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families.” (The Help) The movie was originally based on a book written by

This paper explains how the movie “The Help” goes into great depth to explore the sociological concepts of self and interaction, deviance, and the reality of segregation that still exist today. This paper provides details in the comparison of benefits for children’s, a friend for the mothers, and a maid to help and serve the community. A dark story that elevated into a powerful transformation. A suspense thriller that obtain emotions core with some political twists. A movie that is incredibly uplifting, and a book that would take your breath leaving your mind in awe. It’s a warm, and funny dialog that is quite believable (Goodreads,2016). But, a shocking police stigma that is brutal both physical and verbal. (Ferris, K., & Stein, J. (2010). A silent retribution that only allowed no action other than for blacks to dedicate their lives to the memory of how a white community in Mississippi town used other forms of violence toward black people. So, taboo and the thought of violating evokes strong feelings of disgust for all the maids. While the other white people stop and stare without any remorse. To place more emphasis on why this movie is one to watch; simply because this movie had won multiple rewards such as the Oscar, and the Golden globe award a year after it was released in 2011(Goodreads, 2016).
Essay The Help, by Kathryn Stockett
Feminist theory is a term that embraces a wide variety of approaches to the questions of a women’s place and power in culture and society. Two of the important practices in feminist critique are raising awareness of the ways in which women are oppressed, demonized, or marginalized, and discovering motifs of female awakenings. The Help is a story about how black females “helped” white women become “progressive” in the 1960’s. In my opinion, “The Help” I must admit that it exposes some of our deepest racial, gender, and class wounds as individuals and social groups, and that the story behind the story is a call to respect our wounds and mutual wounding so that healing may have a chance to begin and bring social

The Help: Film Analysis
Part 1 - In American author's 2009 book, The Help, the primary thesis is the relationship between Black maids and white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s. The story is really told from three perspectives, Aibileen and Minny are Black women, both maids, and Skeeter is the nickname of Eugenia Phelan, daughter of a prominent White family. Skeeter has just finished school and hopes to become a writer. In general, the relationship between the Black maids and the White employers is six sided: On one side we have the White employers who have three views: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that can range from extreme scorn and bias to kindness regarding race; 2) Their public persona that must have the "proper" attitude about Blacks and "the help," and 3) Their employer attitude, which is condescending and parental. The Black view also has three segments: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that usually range from understanding not all Whites are the same and an extreme love and empathy for the White children for whom they care; 2) The public persona that is deferential, polite, and stoic to their White bosses; and 3) Their attitude and view among the Black community, which usually separates the "poor and ignorant but rich" White souls from the Black view of family and common sense. All in all, the relationship is contentious, phony, and based on economic advantage.
Movie Review: the Help Essay
An emotionally stirring movie taking place in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s, “The Help” stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer as three women who share a common motive. This racially tense setting creates the perfect foundation for a drama film such as this. The characters’ personalities in combination with the emotion of the plot develop a socially accurate depiction of the struggles faced by the people of the time. While the racial aspect of the movie is dominant, viewers may also find compassion and friendship within the conversations and encounters of its characters.
Themes Of Literature In The Help, To Kill A Mockingbird
First of all, in the novel the Help, the author, Kathryn Stockett, uses the theme of prejudice and race to develop the plot. This historical fiction is based upon racism in the early 1960’s in Jackson, Mississippi, so a lot of the white characters, mainly a character named Hilly, refers the blacks and black maids more animal than human. These accusations are based on how whites built their social barriers based on fears. As a result, this veers the Chronicle's enactment, by using racial prejudice and bigotry, which affected the black maids and other black characters, and how they, with the help of a white woman called Skeeter, overcame hardships by sticking with their belief of social equality. “I want to yell so loud that Baby Girl can hear me that dirty ain't a color, disease ain't the negro side of town. I want to stop that moment from coming – and it comes in every white child's life – when they start to think that colored folks are not as good as

Compare and Contrast “The Help” Book and Movie
There are many differences between the book, The Help, and the movie, “The Help”. Although the director did manage to keep some of the plots the same, there are still not as many similarities as differences in the book and movie.
To start off, the director did keep most of the characters looks and personalities the same in the movie as in the book. Some differences were that in the book Skeeter is big and tall, but the movie has her slender and average height, if not shorter. Hilly is portrayed in the book as a dark-haired woman, whose weight increased throughout the timeline in the book, but in the movie, she is thin and stays that way through the whole movie.

Also in the movie, Skeeter’s maid, Constantine, is shorter than Skeeter, although in the book it says that Constantine is the only person who made Skeeter feel small, or short. Lastly, Constantine’s daughter in the movie, Rachel, is black, but in the book, it says she may have a white daughter or even no daughter at all. In the book, Skeeter’s family finds out Constantine is dead when they send a check to her and her daughter sends it back saying she has passed. In the movie, Skeeter’s mother says that her brother went to go bring Constantine back, but he finds out she has passed away.
In the movie, Skeeter’s mother is sick with cancer from the moment she first appears. In the book, she doesn’t find out she has cancer until later in the novel. The way it happens in the movie, Skeeter applies for a job in the paper and gets it by showing her rejection letter saying she’s good, but needs improvement. She is also offered $8 pay and gladly takes it. In the book, Skeeter applies for the job and just gets it, and is so in shock that she actually got the job that when she is offered $8 her employer thinks she is so in shock from the low pay he raises it to $10. Also later in the novel, it says that Skeeter takes a job in New York and gives the Miss Myrna article in the paper job to Aibileen. This does not happen in the movie.
In the book, Aibileen tells Skeeter how her son wanted to write a book about being a black man working for a white man. He got the idea from a book called “The Invisible Man”, and Aibileen decides to help Skeeter with it because of Miss Hilly. Unlike the book, Skeeter comes up with the idea of writing what it’s like to be a black maid working for a white family herself, and Aibileen chooses to help her with it because of God and Miss Hilly. Near the end of the book, Aibileen gives Skeeter a copy of “The Help” signed by everyone that helped out. In the movie, the church (filled with everyone who helped the book) gives Aibileen a signed book.
Celia has very different events in the book and in the movie. For example, in the book, Celia hires Minny without telling her husband Johnny. He soon finds out about Minny by the improvement of the meals. In the movie, Celia tells Johnny about Minny. Later in the book, Minny thinks Celia has a drinking problem because she is going upstairs and hiding in her room all the time with a drink. She then finds out that Celia is trying to avoid a miscarriage and it is a drink that she bought to help avoid them, but there is no mention of this in the movie. The book states that there is a naked man that tries to break into Celia’s house, but Celia and Minny scare him off. This is not shown or talked about in the movie. When Celia gets drunk in the book, she accidentally rips a part of Miss Hilly’s dress, and Hilly asks for $200, saying it’s going to help children in Africa, but in the movie, there is no request for money, a check just shows up at Hilly’s.
Hilly sets Skeeter up on a date with a guy named Stuart. In the book, after they have dinner they go to Hilly’s where Stuart gets drunk and tells Skeeter he isn’t ready to date. The movie shows Stuart already being drunk and Skeeter storms out of the restaurant, and Stuart later apologizes and says he isn’t ready to date. The two end up going out, in both the movie and the book, but the book has a much more dramatic break-up scene (several scenes actually) while the movie just has one short simple break up scene.
The book and the movie, “The Help” have more differences than similarities. Although the book is good, the movie doesn’t do as much of a good job of showing the character’s personalities and relationships with each other.

Introduction
The book that is being reviewed in this essay is titled ‘Rubbish! The Archeology of Garbage.’ The authors of this book are William Rathje and Cullen Murphy. William Laurens Rathaje is an American archeologist and was formerly an anthropology professor at the University of Arizona. 1945-2012. Rubbish! The Archeology of Garbage, 1992, 263 pp. / 6.00 in x 9.00 in / 2001. The University of Arizona Press, Tucson, Arizona. Cullen Murphy, 1952, Rubbish! The Archeology of Garbage. Managing Editor, Atlantic.
The book opens with the following introduction: "On a crisp October morning not long ago the sun ascended above the Atlantic Ocean and turned its gaze on a team of young researchers as they swarmed over what may be the largest archaeological site in the world. Its mass, estimated at 2.9 billion cubic feet, . And it is known to be a treasure trove-a Pompeii, a Tikal, most advanced civilization the planet has ever seen." The above rhapsodic introduction is itself a classic example of the expressiveness, humor and causticness that the authors bring to their learning of the two decade old Garbage Project of the University of Arizona, which has made insightful detections by sifting through the massive load of stuff the entire United States spews out in the form of garbage. A highly interesting read, highly acclaimed, and often quoted book – ‘Rubbish! The Archaeology of Garbage,’ written by William Rathje and Cullen Murphy, an archaeologist and a journalist respectively, is an astounding and also an alarming discovery about the way in which garbage portrays our society. It is based on the 1973 archelogy project on garbage that was an exercise for the students of the University of Arizona Tucson. A small group of anthropologists from the University of Arizona were conducting a sequence of methodical archeological digs since 1973. As part of this project they were actually meticulously scrutinizing, categorizing and documenting the contents of approximately 14 -16 tons of material that was excavated. The location where their investigations were conducted, however, was not any ancient graveyard or primeval colonies, but were rather urban landfills. Precisely, garbage dumps of contemporary cities. The inferences and discoveries of the above project have been documented in an excellent manner in this book. This book, regardless of its sensational expletive theme, is neither a criticism on the environmental hazards of a casual society nor a whimsical account of the garbage that was investigated. It can be portrayed as a work that is highly eloquent and provocative work, which drives absolute self-righteousness while also taking an ironic aim at the numerous sacred cows in the course. It is actually very interesting to know that the trash we generate can depict a detailed demeanor of the human life and civic society. For instance, in times of product scarcity, our garbage portrays how the same product which is scare is wasted excessively by us. Another significant discovery made by Dr. Rathje and his team is regarding our landfills that are consuming roughly about1% of the total mass is not because of disposable diapers as it is commonly believed. It has been stated that the study of garbage, in reality, divulges a vast amount of information pertaining to the size of the population, demographic information like age, traditional disparities as well as purchasing habits. However, the biggest astonishment is that the supposed garbage calamity is in reality, a collation of extensively unchallenged myths. The most important among such myths is that things like fast-food packaging and the foam, both the general as well as the one that is filled inside disposable diapers, essentially constitute more than 70 % of the substances of the common landfill, and this has been documented in a number of surveys. However, the reality on the other hand is that fast-food packaging constitutes no more than 1/3rd of 1% in terms of volume, and foam for just 1% of total matter in a typical landfill. Disposable diapers, the most common monster amongst several things, claim an entire chapter for their own, in turn, massively dismissing all human fears.
The whole book, which is predominantly a documentation of the findings of the archeology project, has actually got an impressive and fascinating premise. "That what people have owned -- and thrown away -- can speak more eloquently, informatively, and truthfully about the lives they lead than they themselves ever may." The very idea that garbage is an extremely beneficial source of cultural evidence about the past is barely innovative; as such, landfills, the sites of several archeological investigations, are basically heaps of rubbing under a disguised title, and the earthenware that are placed in many museums are nothing but ancient garbage. Yet, the moot question is whether we can really learn anything valuable and worthy about the contemporary world by investigating its rubbish? The book is more of a discourse by the authors regarding the complex approach of exploring rubbish, the history of collecting and disposing the same, as well as also about the dynamics and composition of the landfills. The findings of the project reveals that the proportion of human beings to garbage has been steady and stable for many centuries now, and that the fright regarding disposable diapers as well as fast-food packaging is actually an exaggeration. As highlighted by the authors, garbage has been a persistent aspect in the human society, and most of the time a massive pile of it being present. It has been quoted in the book that a “street level of the ancient city of Troy rose almost five feet per century as a result of debris accumulation. Present-day street levels on the island of Manhattan are typically 6 to 15 feet higher than they were in the 17th century; it wasn't until 1895 that the city undertook systematic garbage removal .” It is explained by the authors that these are actually highly minimal in terms of the volume of landfills when compared to other material like paper and potato peels, which make up a major portion of the landfill volume. The book also reveals alarming facts, which eventually ruin the idealistic conceptions about biodegradation. According to the authors, organic matter has a tendency to "mummify" in the landfills instead of breaking down into smaller pieces. The authors expose the causticness of human ignorance, while also highlighting the psychological and political viewpoints held about rubbish and about what is really perilous and what is recyclable today. The per capita generation of garbage by the Americans has been extraordinarily consistent over the last century, as currently, there is more of substances like paper and plastic that comprise today’s garbage, while the quantum of coal ash and horse manure has declined considerably. Similarly, in contrast to the widespread perception, Americans are not the people to produce more garbage than anybody else in the world. A comparative study of many American cities as well as Mexico City revealed that, regardless of the American households generating excessive amount of packaging waste, they generated one third less garbage on an average, when compared to their Mexican counterparts, whose fresh and unpackaged food yielded much more waste. Yet, America is surely facing a garbage catastrophe, as claimed by the authors in this book. If plastic rubbish is considerably lesser that what is anticipated, the extent of paper, which constitutes 40 % of the overall and growing garbage, irrespective of the positive aspirations of a paperless PC revolution. Although the per capita garbage disposal is continuing at a constant rate today, there are several citizens who are generating more garbage than in the past. Rathaje is a professor in anthropology and is also an archeologist. Apart from being the professor emeritus in the anthropology department of the University of Arizona, he was also a consulting professor on the same subject at the Stanford University. The Tucson Garbage project was conducted under his directorship and he presents his personal experience of his research in this book. Murphy is a famous American writer and editor and was also popular for his exceptional service as the managing editor, Atlantic and he used this experience in helping with the above book.
Personal Opinion
I personally feel that this book is a really interesting and informative one, which reveals vast amount of information about how garbage can help trace the culture and demographics of a society, while also clarifying a lot of myths that are held about gargabe. If there continues to exist massive space for landfills, then the rules for positioning them too have become highly stringent, and people today are averse to having garbage dumps in their courtyards or porches. In addition, in contrast to the hopes of traditionalists, even organic waste fails to decay in the landfills and it rather shrivels within. Eventually, this gives rise to the question as to what the final outcome of decomposition would yield to the water systems beneath the surface.

A Review of the Book “Farewell to Manzanar”
The book, Farewell to Manzanar was the story of a young Japanese girl coming of age in the interment camp located in Owens Valley, California. Less than two months after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which stated that the War Department had the right to declare which people were a threat to the country, and move them wherever they so pleased1. Since the West Coast had a large number of Japanese immigrants at the time, it was basically an act that authorized the government to remove Japanese residing on the West Coast away from their homes and put them in these interment camps. As harsh as it may sound, the interment camps were nothing like the famous Nazi interment camps of World War 2. The residents enjoyed relatively comfortable living situations compared to German interment camps, and lived fairly comfortable lives, when compared to the German camps. However, it was still rough, as many families were separated. Farewell to Manzanar is the story of one girl making the difficult transition to womanhood, at a difficult time, at a difficult location. Two of the main life lessons that Jeannie learned during her stay at Manzanar dealt with the issues of her identity of an American against her Japanese heritage, and also with school.
During her time at Manzanar, Jeannie was surrounded by almost exclusively Japanese people, and did not have much exposure to Caucasians, or people of other races. Therefore, she did not know what to truly expect when she went out into the school world outside of Manzanar. She had received some schooling while in Manzanar, however, the American schools were drastically different from the schools inside of Manzanar. While inside Manzanar, Jeannie learned more skills in the fine arts, such as baton twirling, and ballet. The hard subjects were taught, but she doesnt mention as much about them as she does about baton twirling, ballet, and Catechesis. The schools at Manzanar were not much until the second year. The first year, volunteers taught the schools, and resources were pretty scarce.1 However, in the second year, teachers were hired, and the number of available supplies increased. One key thing that Jeannie remembers about her Manzanar schooling was her participation in the yearbook, and also with the Glee Club1. The Glee Club gave her a sense of belonging, which is crucial to girls at her age. The psychological scars that the interment process left on Jeannie often left her feeling like she didnt belong with the crowds, or with the other children. Even more shocking was the fact that she accepted these feelings as perfectly normal. Also distinct about her schooling at Manzanar was the fact that she felt very prepared to enter American schools. This shows how she was eager to be a part of mainstream American cultures, even though she may not have been welcome.
Jeannies experience in American schools was drastically different from her experience at Manzanar. She had problems making friends because the parents of the other children would not allow their children to befriend a Japanese girl.1 For Jeannie, the first thing an American girl said to her, Gee, I didnt know you spoke English1 defined peoples attitudes toward her and other Japanese peoples at that time in history. However, most of the other children slowly accepted her, regardless of her race. On the opposite end of the spectrum, most of the parents and some of the teachers were very unreceptive to Jeannie for the simple fact that she was Japanese. This fact very much disappointed her, and she directly stated that when she said From that point on, part of me yearned to be invisible. In a way, nothing would have been nicer for no one to see me.1 However, she was not excluded from all activities, as she was an active participant in athletics, scholarship, yearbook, newspaper, and student government.

Her participation in these organizations made her feel like she was a small part of American culture, however she never truly felt like a part of American culture because of the fact that a few attitudes kept her from joining all organizations she was interested in. One crucial experience that made Jeannie feel like she was not truly wanted was the experience of trying to be the carnival queen for her high school. Jeannie utterly amazed the audience with her looks, and the majority of the students had voted for her. However, several teachers didnt want to be embarrassed by having a Japanese girl represent their school, so they tried to stuff the ballot box. Even though she still won, this experience had given her a reality check of sorts. Even though she was allowed into the clubs and schools of the Americans, Jeannie never felt like she was a total part of American culture. One of the things that Jeannie struggled most with was what her cultural identity truly was.
She wanted to grow up as the other children around her, which were Americans, were allowed to live, however, her father wanted her to grow up as a traditional Japanese woman. The carnival queen issue was a very crucial example of this struggle. Jeannie wore a low cut sarong, which showed off her body, to the queen tryouts, and garnered large amounts of applause in the process. However, both her and her Papa questioned whether or not this conflicted with her racial traditions. In Papas words, Modesty is important. A graceful body is important. You dont show your legs all the time. You dont walk around like this.1 He also accused her of wanting to marry a hakajin2 boy, which was an almost unbearable thought to Papa. No matter how thrilled she was to be the queen, she struggled with the fact that she was pretending to be of a culture which she did not belong to. She was dressed as an American, acting as an American, even though she was of Japanese descent. Under Papas orders, she signed up for odori class, however, she performed terribly and was basically kicked out of class by the instructor.
Jeannie Wakatsuki lived a very diverse life, as she was subjected to both life inside of an interment camp and American high school. Attending American high school is a character shaping experience, and even more so for someone of a minority race or gender. The experience lets them know where their race stands among others, and if they will be completely accepted in the outside world. Unfortunately for Jeannie, she was not totally accepted by others throughout her life, and that left psychological scars on her. However, she came out of these experiences a better and more well rounded person, so they were not totally negative for her. A note of interest is that she ended up marrying a non-Japanese person, possibly due to her growing up and maturing around non- Japanese. The book Farewell to Manzanar fully illustrates her thoughts and feelings throughout this process.

The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
Words can be as powerful as any weapon. They have the power to spread ideas, yet that power can be dangerous. They have the ability to hinder, help, and heal someone. Depending on who is saying something, and how they say it, it affects people differently. During World War II, Hitler used his power to influence people with fear and hope to do dehumanize the Jews. Throughout The Book Thief , Markus Zusak uses cacophonous diction, imagery, and the third person point of view to relay the power of words which creates a sympathetic and frightened nature, that exposes the hardships that people face during the Holocaust. The power of words can give a character two different faces, which brings them together by their similarities or pulls them apart …show more content…
The “Germans loved burning books” (84) to keep people away from certain ideas, as if those ideas would spread like an infection. They feared those ideas, like the one in the book Liesel steals that a Jew could be a hero, because they could undermine the Nazi ideology and therefore the party’s control over Germany. As Max “cut out a collection of pages from Mein Kampf and painted over them in white” (223) this exemplifies that bad can be turned into good. Something that was once used to spread hate, is now bringing joy to Liesel. Death says that a Jews “face was flattened against the road” and that “the ache in his arms was unbearable to watch as they shook”(393), they were mentally and physically exhausted because of the overwhelming constant fear. They were scared to show their weaknesses because of an excessive power by the Nazi …show more content…
Death has carried around Liesel’s book, and her words, “so damning and brilliant” that have given him a new view of the human race, “so ugly and so glorious” (550). Death notes that though he serves villains and disasters, there are moments and stories he allows to distract him, and The Book Thief is one of those stories. For Liesel, even as the words took her mother away from her, endangered her best friend, and isolated her when they were beyond her grasp, words were what connected her to the people she loved. Words were powerful enough to literally save her, in the end. The Jews knew “they could not be saved” and for one man’s sake, “just give him five more minutes and he would surely fall into the German gutter and die”(393). This event gives a suspenseful feeling to the reader to create sympathy for the people in harm’s way experiencing harsh predicaments. Not only were the Jews sacred so were the Germans.
