The programs share many of the same core classes and both emphasize technical knowledge and computer system literacy. BS in Accounting students will take courses such as Cost Management and Federal Taxation, and highly qualified students can get hands-on experience through an internship. The BS in Corporate Finance and Accounting focuses more on business analysis and team communication skills and includes courses like Financial Modeling and Strategic Performance Management. Both the BS in Accounting and the BS in Corporate Finance and Accounting prepare students to sit for the CPA exam, although careful planning of electives is required for those completing the BS in Corporate Finance and Accounting to qualify. Students hoping to meet all of the CPA educational requirements can also complete a Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an Accounting concentration through Bentley University.
At the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University (NEU), students can earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) or a Bachelor of Science in International Business (BSIB) degree with an Accounting concentration. This program emphasizes the technical accounting knowledge, as well as the critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and communication, necessary to succeed in the field. Students take core Business Administration courses and concentration-specific courses, including Financial Reporting and Analysis; Advisory Services and Emerging Accounting Systems; and Income Tax Determination and Planning. Coursework also covers accounting information systems and the practical skills needed in the industry. Students can pursue experiential learning through the co-op program, where they can participate in a paid work placement related to their field of study. Undergraduate students can also pursue a combined BSBA and Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) that can be completed jointly in just five years.
Students at Stonehill College can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Accounting. This program includes broad-based accounting, general education, and core business courses. The coursework focuses on developing students’ critical thinking and practical business communication skills. Core classes in the BSBA Accounting program include Corporate Financial Reporting, Introduction to Data Analytics, and Business Experience. Undergraduate students can pursue internship or mentorship opportunities through the Stonehill Career Development Center, and graduates from the BSBA program may go on to work in business, government, and nonprofit organizations.

Northeastern University 360 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115 (617) 373-2000 https://www.northeastern.edu/
Student Review: “My masters of accounting program was geared toward liberal arts majors with no accounting background, basically starting from scratch with debits and credits. However, there were a few students who had taken several accounting courses or even majored in accounting, which put them at a serious advantage compared to the rest of the students in the program. My experience is slightly clouded by how things have turned out for me, as I have discovered that I am not that interested in the accounting profession, yet have no choice but to continue in the field due to the large amount of student loans I took on to pay for my degree. Looking back, it was a very large commitment to a career that I knew little about, which was a very poor decision on my part. The program itself was good, and I was definitely prepared through the financial preparation and taxation courses, as well as an internship at a large regional accounting firm during busy season. But if I could go back in time, I would have done something differently.” -Student at Northeastern University
University of Massachusetts Lowell 1 University Ave Lowell, MA 01854 (978) 934-4000 https://www.uml.edu/
Student Review: “This was a good program in a nationally ranked business school. The accounting department is under the Isenberg School of Management and all of my accounting classes were located in the Isenberg building right in the middle of campus. The classes were challenging but not too hard for me. I know other students who couldn’t handle the material but I don’t mind math like they did. Managerial accounting was probably the hardest course I took. The class was basically a summary of material from three previous classes I took squeezed into one class. One aspect of the accounting department I hated was the size of the classes. Every class was overcrowded and finding a seat was nearly impossible. Also enrolling in classes was frustrating because they would fill up very quickly.” -Jordan S., student at University of Massachusetts Lowell
Student Review: “I recently completed a degree in Accounting from UMass Lowell. I was generally satisfied, but I think that there could be more resources available for students. I liked that the school’s curriculum provided broad and diverse classes. I took a number of business and general education classes, some of which were not related to my field. This gave me a wider perspective and helped me develop additional skills, which can differentiate me from other job candidates. For example, a database class I took senior year taught me some basic SQL and Access skills. The classes were challenging, but manageable. The most difficult class, Accounting Information Systems, is easily graduate-level work, and I believe it is required for master’s candidates with a bachelor’s in something other than accounting. A change I think could be made would be to add work-study summer classes that could also count for credits. I did work-study for two years and only had one assignment that really demonstrated my relevant abilities. Overall, I think it was a good experience. I did not take advantage of all my opportunities, but someone dedicated to actively working their hardest will find this program to be a great value.” -Zach C., student at University of Massachusetts Lowell

Boston College
Chestnut Hill, MA •

Niche User: Boston college is a great school! I recently got admitted to Boston College. I applied them through an organization called Quest-bridge that helps students that are minorities and come from low income families. Due to that, I got full tuition from Boston College. I really appreciate that Boston College is giving an opportunity to high achieving successful students since not everyone had the same opportunities growing up. In addition, I have been on Boston College tour before. It was magical there. The campus was the prettiest. More importantly, the admissions counselors were super kind to me when I went there. They answered all of my questions, and I kept in touch with them. I think this may be one of the reasons I was admitted. I think I can best express myself in interviews, since BC doesn't do interviews, it was definitely beneficial for me to show my personality to an admissions officer. The campus environment over all looked so chill, just like a family. See you at BC! ... Read 1,582 reviews

Sophomore: I absolutely love going to Bentley! I am going into my sophomore year and had an incredible freshman year. I made so many wonderful friends and really enjoyed my classes. I had a pretty heavy workload all year, but I also am a perfectionist when it comes to assignments. I had multiple group projects this year, and I had awesome group mates. Everyone at Bentley is very motivated and strives for success. I also highly recommend joining Greek life. I joined a sorority and met my best friends. Alum: I transferred to Suffolk in 2021, a little hesitant honestly due to its Niche score! However, Suffolk was a really rewarding and wonderful experience for me. I studied English and the professors and people I met in the department were absolutely lovely and extremely supportive. Suffolk's academics are, in my opinion, the best part of the school. Socially, it was a little hard to make friends as most students were/are commuters. Even so, the classes were always engaging and most professors were extremely understanding and nice. ... Alum: One of the best things about Lasell University is its affordability. In comparison to most 4-year institutions nearby, Lasell has strongeducational resources for a fraction of the cost. I would still recommend undergrad students participate in outside professional workshops and development opportunities, though. In recent years, there's a stronger student engagement on campus and the student presence has geared towards activism, which has influenced a lot of changes in the school. Lastly, Lasell has a good professional network to help students navigate internship placements, which are particularly competitive for students pursuing fashion in Boston! ... Read 564 reviews

Gordon College

Senior: Gordon has a phenomenal Kinesiology department. The professors really make an effort to get to know each student and build a relationship with them. Gordon College is also one of the few undergraduate schools in which offer cadaver labs. This is the big thing that made me choose this school! Endicott College
Beverly, MA •
- • Rating 3.43 out of 5 917 reviews
Senior: Endicott does a fantastic job with career preparation and readiness. There are several internship courses that teach students how to create resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and professional emails. Additionally, they provide resources and teach students how to find internships/jobs, make connections, and network. As a senior, I have found the internship program to be immensely helpful, and I have had experiences that will make me well prepared once I graduate. The professors are wonderful- they are willing and able to help students, and are generally supportive. One thing I would like to see change at Endicott is accessibility on campus. Endicott's campus is difficult to navigate for students with disabilities, which discourages disabled students from applying and causes very significant issues for current students. In the past year or so, I have seen improvements and hope that these continue! ... Read 917 reviews

Simmons University

Freshman: Currently, I'm a student at Simmons University. While there's a lot wrong with the school (...Bartol), there are also some great things. All of my professors have been very dedicated to seeing me succeed, and are willing to put in extra time and effort to help me. Everyone I've met is either extremely friendly, or at least cordial, and I've made some of my best friends here. The dorms aren't great, but they also aren't awful. You can put in a work order, and usually, things get fixed. If you decorate, it will feel less like a jail cell. This school is STEM-focused, so humanities majors may find resources lacking, but the professors in humanities departments will acknowledge this. It's also great for LGBT students, as you won't be the minority. However, for POC students, there is work to be done. There are a lot of events specifically for POC students, though! Don't come if you're looking to party all the time. You have to go to MIT/BU frats, and the uber charges rack up fast! ... Read 815 reviews

Senior: Eastern Nazarene College is a great place! I have made lifelong friends here at ENC, and the faculty and staff are amazing. It may be a small campus, but because of that I was able to form strong friendships not only with my peers, but also with my professors. It is worthwhile. All my teachers know me by name and have helped me through all of my struggles in order to finish my classes well and understand everything they are teaching me. It is very important to soak up all the information so it can help you in life and in your future career. I messed up a lot and I failed a lot but I had people here with me along the way giving me exactly what I needed to succeed. They value their students, a faith biased community and support us all in our walk with Christ. At ENC we are home, coming together in the spirit with people who support you and encourage you and build you up. Anyone is welcome here. Senior: I had a really hard time learning online my freshman year here, HOWEVER, the support I received from my professors and my advisor helped me to completely turn around and take a semester off until classes were more in person again. When I returned in fall 2021, I became a STRAIGHT-A STUDENT as I learned to utilize all of the free resources the school offers such as CASA tutoring and the SI's in my math class. Not only did my grades improve, but so did my social life. I have joined two clubs since starting here in 2020 and now I am the president of one and the vice president of the other. If not for all of the resources and support at this school I fear I would've never returned to college. It is also a very accessible campus; I had injured my ankle at one point and needed to get around on crutches but there was no issue with that. There are elevators in every academic building and most of the residence halls. The health center was great too, I don't even have to pay copays! ... Read 756 reviews

Alum: I had a great experience at Emmanuel. The reasons I chose the school were because I wanted to major in Art Therapy and I wanted a smaller school with a closed campus. I enjoyed the small class sizes and getting to know my professors. I chose to live on campus all four years because I liked that my classes, the art studio, dining hall was all close by. The dorms were fine for me and I made use of the gyms in a few of the buildings. The dining hall food was also fine for me and I enjoyed the stir-fry and salad options. The location of the school is one of the highlights. Located on the Fenway, it is close to other universities as well as the Museum of Fine Art, Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, and lots of parks. It is walking distance to the T and major grocery stores - basically anything you could need. Freshman: MassBay was the first school I'd attended after dropping out of high school for physical & mental health reasons. I was nervous at first, as I was used to schools overlooking my needs, or making classes inaccessible by default (e.g., in high school, my disabling fatigue meant that sometimes I couldn't attend class, and missing even one day was disastrous as it'd cause me to fall behind). This isn't the case at MassBay. My first in-person class was with Prof. Keegan, with whom I didn't even NEED to request accommodations, because he was so good about putting everything on Blackboard by default! I'm having a similarly positive experience with Prof. Bastien. MassBay's teachers are passionate about what they do, and I feel like they actually care about my success. Missing classes due to my health is no longer a "death sentence" for me. I'm not falling behind because of 1 missed day anymore! For the first time in years, I feel like somebody WANTS me to succeed academically... Thank you. ... Read 277 reviews

As a part of the biotechnology program, I have reaped the benefits of a brand-new science building and lab spaces. There is also a brand-new business and nursing building opening in fall 2022 as well as new dorms being added to campus. If you want a school with small class sizes where you know everyone who lives in your hallway and seeing friendly faces every time you walk to class, Riv is for you! The only downside about Riv is the quality of the food in the dining hall. The dorms are nice and clean, the campus is small and safe, and there are many sports teams and majors! ... Read 491 reviews

Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the PhD graduates should be able to:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of one or more subareas of chemistry.
- Formulate a research hypothesis based on relevant literature and use appropriate research methods to reach conclusions.
- Describe their research findings clearly in publications and presentations for both professional and lay audiences.
- Be competitive for appropriate positions in industry and academia (e.g., research scientist and post-doctoral fellows).
- Teach courses effectively in the field at the college level.
Chemistry Department Graduate Guidelines
There is no total credits requirement for the Ph.D. degree. First-year courses provide the student with a breadth of knowledge in the fields of organic and organometallic chemistry; chemical biology and biochemistry; inorganic; and physical and analytical chemistry. After the first year, each student will pursue a program of studies, with the approval of their advisor, that is consistent with individual educational goals. Every student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.0 at the end of his or her second semester in the department and maintain it thereafter.
Selection of a Research Advisor and an Original Research Project
During the first semester of graduate studies, students meet with faculty members and senior graduate students to explore the dissertation research opportunities available in different groups. The Graduate Research Symposium, held in October, showcases the research of our graduate students in a day-long event that consists of oral and poster presentations. The symposium is an excellent opportunity for new graduate students to learn more about research activities in the department. By the end of the first semester, most students have selected a research advisor and identified a potential dissertation project that they will begin investigating in the second semester.
Teaching Requirements
Some teaching or equivalent educational experience is required. This requirement may be satisfied by at least one year of service as a teaching assistant or by suitable teaching duties. Arrangements are made with each student for a teaching program best suited to their overall program of studies. Waivers of teaching requirements may be granted under special circumstances with the approval of the Chemistry Department.
Ph.D. Candidacy and Comprehensive Examinations
At the end of the second year, Ph.D. candidates must pass an oral exam that covers fundamental concepts in chemistry as well as advanced areas of chemistry critical to his/her research project. Members of the student’s dissertation committee comprise the exam committee. After passing the exam, and other minimum requirements, the student is recommended as a candidate for the Ph.D. degree.
Ph.D. Dissertation and Defense
The Ph.D. degree requires a dissertation based upon original research, either experimental or theoretical. For the Ph.D. candidate, a research project requiring three to four years of sustained effort will begin usually after the first year of study. An oral defense of the dissertation before a faculty thesis committee completes the degree requirements. A public presentation of the thesis is also required.
